In Path of Exile 2, the road to perfection is long and full of challenges. However, a mechanic is currently causing massive frustration and preventing players from completing their characters.
What mechanic is it? In Path of Exile 2, character strength is not solely determined by character level; it is much more about the inner values. In this case, it’s not about the right equipment but the skills themselves that can be upgraded in the game.
Right at the beginning of the ARPG, every player learns the system. They receive an uncut gem as an item and can grind it into a skill.
A level 1 gem becomes a level 1 skill, a level 2 gem becomes a level 2 skill, and so on. The skills do not need to be leveled; an uncut level 10 gem gives you a level 10 skill directly with a click. The higher the level of the gem, the more powerful the resulting skill.
The mechanic that ensures constant upgrades at the beginning of PoE2 is currently annoying gamers in the endgame, as they simply cannot find their last upgrade.

The last upgrade is missing
What annoys the players? In Path of Exile 2, many adventurers reached the endgame a month after release. So they are only chasing a few upgrades to complete their characters. In many cases, the last missing upgrade is to bring all skills to level 20.
For this, gamers need uncut gems of level 20. However, these are extraordinarily rare. So rare that most players have only received one or two even after hundreds of hours. Depending on the build, however, 5–10 gems are needed to maximize the most important skills.
Although their characters are otherwise complete, it is precisely one mechanic that seems very simple at the beginning of the ARPG that holds them back. However, the low drop rates of the items cause frustration for many.
What do the players say about this? On Reddit, gamers vent their frustration. Under a post by user Odd-Peace-5124 on Reddit, many comments accumulate. One of them is from Knukehhh, who shares his experiences on Reddit: “I’ve only had 2 in 400 hours. Still no 20 will. Make sure to run t16 on boss maps with corruption and irritated.”
Furycrab has had this experience as well and shares it on Reddit: “Playing SSF and level 20 gems and perfect jewelers are WAY too rare. Farmed to level 95 without seeing a single perfect one. I’ve almost exclusively run grass biome maps. […]”
Apache_Choppah_6969 gives a good piece of advice on Reddit: “They will soon fix this mess. The best thing you can do now is not despair at the worst version this game will ever be.”
The developers of Path of Exile 2 have now returned from their Christmas vacation and are providing the game with new updates again.
