Attention Spoilers: The following article summarizes the plot of Episode 5 of Season 3 of House of the Dragon.
The situation for both factions remains tense. At the center of the conflict is currently Stumbling Town, as Daeron Targaryen is there and could become a problem for Rhaenyra as her heir.
But the other Targaryens, Aegon II and Aemond, are also becoming more active. Within the walls of King’s Landing, there is a new danger.
We summarize the many problems Rhaenyra faces after the video.
Preparing for the Next Battles
What is the situation in Stumbling Town? Rhaenyra’s troops from the Riverlands and the North are currently facing problems. The way to Stumbling Town is hindered by destroyed bridges, and Ser Criston is also making his way towards them to stop them, raiding camps along the way.
But his troops are having problems too. With traps and also destroyed bridges, Rhaenyra’s troops are also holding Criston back from advancing further – this is slowly reflected in the mood of his soldiers.
Ormund is trying to secure Stumbling Town from an attack in the meantime. For this, he needs resources like wood – he is also teaching Daeron his views on victory and leadership.
Finally, we also learn how Aemond is doing. He is recovering in Harrenhal from his injury, while Alys Rivers is attempting to keep bounty hunters at bay. At the end of the episode, Aemon actually gets back up and saves Alys from a group of assassins. Generally, the two get closer this episode. There is still no sign of Vhagar.
There are Several Problems in King’s Landing
How is Rhaenyra doing in King’s Landing? In Rhaenyra’s captivity, Alicent is struggling with a new problem. Helaena is pregnant (apparently by Aemond) and as a possible heir to Aegon II, such a child would be a problem for Rhaenyra’s claim. So, Alicent is planning not only an abortion but also attempting to escape in the episode.
However, she is stopped by the whispering mistress Lady Mysaria. As a last resort, they enter a secret passage that has no exit. At the end of the episode, both are locked in, completely without light.
Rhaenyra has a new problem in King’s Landing: Daemon’s Gold Cloaks are being mysteriously killed. As it turns out after torturing a possible culprit, Ormund is involved. At the end of the episode, it is also seen that there are quite a few enemies lurking in the city. Daemon finds a large group of his Gold Cloaks dead, sitting at a table.
What about Aegon? Aegon II continues to complain about his miserable situation, but finally gets a dressing-down from Lord Larys after attempting to flee the city. The whining seems to have worked, as Aegon returns. In their predicament, they find an ally: Tyland Lannister survived the battle at the Gargle.
