The most well-known Prime Minister of Germany is now promoting his projects with a cover art resembling GTA 6. The title doesn’t really have much to do with law and order.
What does Markus Söder have to do with GTA 6? Pre-orders for GTA 6 have just started, and the hype around the game has reached a new high. The attention has even reached the Bavarian State Chancellery, as Markus Söder also posts a cover art for the game on Instagram at the launch of the pre-orders.
However, it shows neither Jason nor Lucia; instead, there are three times Söder, once CSU General Secretary Markus Blume, and the Federal Minister for Research, Technology and Space Dorothee Bär in a KI-look.
While Bär fittingly poses in a space suit, Bavarian Minister for Science and Art Markus Blume shakes hands with a robot. The Prime Minister appears stately on the cover art in front of a podium, in a hallway resembling the White House and in front of a large machine.
Three other tiles of the cover art show traditional attire, the Bavarian Alps, and the famous Frauenkirche in Munich. Instead of Grand Theft Auto, the title of the cover art reads: “Hightech & Heimat Bayern”. As a caption, Markus Söder writes: “Hightechland Bayern before GTA 6. This is how future looks. 🚀”

A questionable game for a politician
Why is this questionable? Markus Söder naturally wants to exploit the hype of GTA 6 for his project Hightechland Bayern, which aims to advance the federal state in various high-tech fields such as space travel and robotics.
However, the game that Markus Söder has taken as a template for his post has something quite different in mind. Even the title Grand Theft Auto is a criminal offense from the USA that classifies any theft of vehicles with permanent intent as grand theft.
In Florida, where the next part of the video game series will take place, the crime can carry a penalty of up to five years in prison. At the same time, everything in the world of GTA revolves around crime:
- Players continuously steal cars and often run over civilians and police officers
- There are shootings, robberies, and bank heists
- Bodily harm, contract killings, even torture appeared in the last part
- Also, things like money laundering, market manipulation, and forgery are part of the game
- The protagonist constantly moves back and forth between the red-light district and organized crime, involved in drug trafficking, arms smuggling, and extortion
- Additionally, the GTA series also features corrupt politicians
That the Prime Minister of Bavaria now exchanges criminals on the cover of a game for himself and his party colleagues is questionable. After all, politicians should stand for law, order, and justice, rather than for serious crimes.
