GTA 6 released over 60 new screenshots, showcasing not only outfits and other style options but also new vehicles in the game – and they excite not just car fans.
What is the reaction to the car screenshots? The car screenshots are very well received by GTA fans. In a post in the GTA 6 subreddit, the user Ahmed_Sh_115 shows that the cars, purely in terms of appearance, could even compete with the vehicles from the latest Forza Horizon 6.
“As someone who loves cars, these pictures really make me want to just get in the car and take a road trip across the map from a first-person perspective, just like I did in GTA V,” writes XSilentxOtakuX under the post.
And he is not alone in his thoughts. I also love driving in GTA, although cars – unlike the Reddit user – leave me quite indifferent in real life.
Cruising in open-world games like GTA is just peak
Driving in GTA 6 is an important part of the gameplay: I am also very excited about the new insights of the cars in GTA 6. Contrary to my attitude towards cars in real life, which are more of a means to an end for me, I find cars in gaming much more exciting.
Especially in games where driving can take up so much time, it has to be fun. Of course, the environment and scenery play a big role, for me personally also strong radio stations and music, but also the cars themselves. If this can be successfully implemented, I – like many players based on the comments – could spend hours cruising the whole map.
The predecessor, GTA 5, already achieved this perfectly. I listen to the music, I drive through familiar streets, the sun begins to set – these moments are at least as valuable as an exciting mission. And based on the trailer and the screenshot, I have to say: I am really looking forward to it!
What allows the cars in GTA 6 to look so good? The great appearance is partly due to an increased polycount budget, meaning that the 3D model is already much more detailed and does not solely rely on “baked” (= from “bake”: the process of creating detailed texture maps on a 2D plane) to create depth. But also PBR (Physically Based Rendering), which is the physically accurate representation of light on surfaces, shows especially in comparison to GTA 5 how well the many years have benefited the appearance of the cars.
But it should be clearly noted that these are screenshots used for promo and press purposes. Gameplay has not yet been shown. A good example of beautified images is Cyberpunk 2077. There was heavy criticism because the actual graphics on consoles deviated massively from the images shown in trailers and high-resolution press screenshots (via Spiegel.de).
What do you think about driving in GTA games? Do you like to drive around? Or do you try to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible?
Even if driving in GTA can be a lot of fun, there is one feature that can quickly ruin the joyrides. And fans hope that GTA 6 will be more forgiving in this respect: Players are tired of an annoying mission type in GTA 6, making fun of it
