Your imagination has almost no limits, and that’s why many in the community also use the modifications to get the most out of the gangster game. However, there are a few things you need to know about modding in GTA 5.
Installing mods in GTA 5 – Here’s how
How do I install mods? To install mods, follow these steps:
- Step 1: Download a legal PC version of GTA V, for example via Steam or directly from Rockstar.
- Step 2: Download OpenIV .(Source: openiv.com)
- Step 3: Open the ASI Manager (top left in OpenIV).
- Step 4: Install all 3 plugins from the ASI Manager.
- IMPORTANT TIP FOR BEGINNERS: We strongly recommend that when installing “OpenIV.ASI”, you check the box “Allow editing only in the Mods folder” (Only allow edit in mods folder).
- Step 5: Download ScriptHookV .(Source: dev-c.com)
- Step 6: Download ScriptHookVDotNet Nightly .(Source: github.com)
- Step 7: Extract the two files from Step 5 and 6 with a program like 7-Zip or WinRAR.
- Step 8: Copy the file ScriptHookV.dll from the extracted ScriptHookV folder to your GTA V main directory (this is the folder where GTA5.exe is located).
- Step 9: Copy the files ScriptHookVDotNet.ini, ScriptHookVDotNet.asi, ScriptHookVDotNet2.dll and ScriptHookVDotNet3.dll from the extracted ScriptHookVDotNet-Nightly folder also into your GTA V main directory.
- Step 10: Install the mods of your choice.
You can find mods on de.gta5-mods.com. However, make sure to read the ReadMe file carefully before implementing it into your mod folder as it tells you what to pay attention to during installation. Also, you should always download the mods into your Mods folder so that you can easily and trouble-free delete them if you no longer need them.
Can I be banned for mods? It depends on where you use mods. If you only use them for the story mode, you have nothing to fear. However, if you use even a single mod in online mode, even if it is just a harmless graphics update, you risk an immediate ban. This is different if you play on RP servers because those are not the official Rockstar servers.
