– is among the largest German content creators. Actually, she wanted to do something completely different, namely develop games instead of just playing them.

It is about the YouTuber and Twitch streamer Jasmin Gnu, who is one of the most successful German content creators with over 1.51 million subscribers on her YouTube main channel and over 800,000 followers on Twitch. Her content mainly revolves around gaming, and on her YouTube side channel Jasmin Gnu, the 36-year-old addresses socio-critical issues.
In 2022, Jasmin Gnu published her book You Can’t Do It

Jasmin Gnu gave an interview to producer Paul Sydow as part of the 2nd season of the YouTube-Germany documentary. In the documentary, the streamer talked about how Twitch left YouTube behind after some time. In the full interview on YouTube, she also talked about her career.

Where was she rejected? Actually, Jasmin Gnu did not start her YouTube channel in 2015 to become a YouTuber, but as a portfolio. She studied graphic design and eventually new media, and approached YouTube as a side project. Originally, she wanted to use it to apply to game companies to design or program games there.
However, she received a rejection from Square Enix. In the interview, the YouTuber says: It just said: ‘We are only looking for the best’ and I thought: ‘Okay, bye.’

What helped Jasmin Gnu succeed? Like some other Twitch streamers and YouTubers, Fortnite was a turning point for Jasmin Gnu. When the game launched in 2017 with the famous battle royale mode, it generated huge hype, which Jasmin Gnu also noticed in her viewer numbers.
However, she distinguished herself from other streamers with her Let’s Plays, as she played the game differently and did not succumb to its competitive nature. Instead of shooting other players in battle royale mode, the German streamer tried to befriend her opponents. In the interview, she mentions that she quickly realized that viewers liked this kind of content.
She maintains this approach in other video games as well. She explores the games and sees how she can test the limits.
Jasmin Gnu is now an indispensable part of the German YouTube and Twitch landscape. Her content not only provides entertainment value but also educational content when she addresses important social issues.
