The Steam Summer Sale has begun and there are countless offers again. A God-Tier
game along with all DLCs is currently available for only 5 €. MeinMMO editor Nikolas Hernes has spent over 200 hours on the title and is by no means done.
Which game is it? The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is one of the most popular roguelikes on Steam. Of over 360,000 reviews, 97% are positive and the game ranks among the God-Tier Games that have 95% positive ratings with over 100,000 evaluations.
In the roguelike, you embark on runs from room to room, defeating enemies with your tears from a top-down perspective as in a shoot-em-up, and taking down multiple bosses.
For currently €4.81, you can get on Steam the main game and all DLCs, and I assure you: You will hardly find a better deal. This is the all-time lowest price of the game. It has never been cheaper (see SteamDB).
Over 200 hours and still not done
What makes the roguelike so good? The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth perfectly shows the fascination behind builds in roguelikes. With all DLCs, there are over 700 items that make each run special. What I love about Isaac is the chaos. One run, you are completely overpowered and clear rooms in a second, in the next run you get flattened.
Different characters with various starting items and stats, along with numerous bosses and secrets, add the right spice while keeping even the hundredth run feeling fresh. However, there is a small critique here.
There are bosses later on that you can really only defeat with a good build because they simply take too long due to high health pools. Those who can overlook that will have fun with the variety.
In addition to the standard mode, there is a special greed mode that throws waves of monsters at you and several missions that provide you with a pre-made build to complete a run. This is motivating because it completely changes the gameplay.
All those many things also have to be unlocked. This is also a major motivation point in The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. Even after over 200 hours, I have not unlocked nearly all achievements, secrets, and items. That’s why I’m also eager every year to tackle one or even 20 runs in a row.
I have played many roguelikes, but hardly any have captivated me as much as The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.
If you’re still unsure, you can also buy just the main game for €1.49. Even without DLCs, there is a plethora of content that you will find in very few other games for that price.
Have you seen a good deal in the current Summer Sale on Steam? Feel free to write it in the comments. A strong survival game is finally getting its full release soon: One of the best survival games on Steam will cost me over 50 hours again starting in October, it’s finally finished
