Many of us love horror movies with their killers like Michael Myers, Jason, or Freddy. But what if you encountered them in real life? A fitness trainer has some tips that might prepare us for that encounter.
Even though we enjoy watching slashers where Michael Myers and his kind cruelly dispatch their victims, none of us would likely want to face a killer ourselves.
If it ever comes to that, Andrew McKeown has some advice. He works as a fitness coach for the San Diego Wave football team. Slash Film interviewed him on this topic, and his answers provide a good overview of what you should pay attention to.
It should be noted that this is all to be taken with a grain of salt. In a real danger situation and direct confrontation, even physical fitness only offers limited protection.

Time for Training!
What does the workout look like? In many slasher films, the killer appears unexpectedly, and the victim must run away quickly. It is helpful to have enough stamina to cover longer distances comfortably and to shake off the pursuer if possible.
The fitness coach says:
I sprint a certain distance, take a specified break, sprint again, and then shorten the break. This focuses on the repetition speed rather than just on the maximum sprint performance. You repeat this multiple times and can then possibly incorporate linear variations – for example, running through streets and between buildings.

McKeown recommends doing this training 3-4 times a week. To improve long jumps, one could use resistance bands. Swinging a sledgehammer would also improve core strength and body rotation capability.
It is also important to train basic exercises. This includes squats or bench presses to improve overall body strength.
During a chase, unexpected things can happen, and scenarios can arise that you did not anticipate. To be prepared for uneven or unstable surfaces, you should consider the following:
“I would do many exercises on one leg and with one arm, simply because you might find yourself on an unstable surface. This includes exercises like bench pressing with a barbell, one-arm dumbbell bench press, and overhead pressing with a barbell and dumbbell – both arms or one arm.

Another option would be to hide. To duck as low as possible, the coach recommends stretching the hips and calves, improving the ankles, and achieving a deep squat.
Through tag games, one’s reaction ability can be trained, and of course, martial arts is also a valid option. In both cases, it helps to have a training partner. So if you have a friend who is also willing to survive the next attack from Michael Myers, your chances are greatly increased.
Aside from physical fitness, quick thinking and ingenuity can also be beneficial to escape a tight situation. What other tips would you have against various killers?
