10 months after the release of Dune: Awakening, the developers have implemented a long-overdue decision.
What is that decision? The developers of Dune: Awakening have finally separated PvE and PvP players. Those who venture into the endgame area “Deep Desert” can now choose between the PvE and PvP version.
Additionally, the PvP areas in the regular Hagga Basin have been transformed into PvE zones, allowing all players who wish to avoid PvP completely. Nevertheless, there is a consolation prize for PvP players.
Here you can watch a trailer for Dune: Awakening:
Consolation Prize for PvP Players
What do PvP players get? Those who play Dune: Awakening mainly for the PvP have had to deal with the term Griefer since the release. For many PvE players, typical PvP gamers have always come across as nasty rogues who only want to take their loot.
To ensure that the rogues don’t only rob their victims, everyone who dares to enter the PvP area can look forward to an increase in resources. The developers have activated a bonus of 2.5 times the resources on all materials as well as the spice extracted in the PvP version of the Deep Desert.
It is still worthwhile to risk your own equipment to receive better loot.
Why is the change coming? The developers of Dune: Awakening initially wanted to move more towards a PvP MMO. Early videos referred to the game as such before development was eventually opened up to PvE players.
However, the Dune brand attracted more fans of the films, who simply wanted to experience the title as a survival game without PvP and were often taken out by PvP guilds in the Deep Desert, which took away their enjoyment of the game.
Initial measures by the developers increasingly transformed Dune: Awakening into a multiplayer survival game and further reduced PvP in the game. This created a constant conflict between the supporters of the original PvP MMO concept and the film fans who simply wanted to experience survival without dealing with guilds and PvP.
The developers have now separated the two warring factions in the game and created the opportunity for both player groups to get exactly what they want. Whether these measures come too late in light of a player drop of over 95% according to SteamDB will become clear with the next major update.
The identity crisis of Dune: Awakening might finally be resolved thanks to the new update. However, another problem continues to plague players from both factions: cheaters. One case clearly shows how annoying they can be: Player loses hundreds of hours of progress in Dune: Awakening because cheaters cleared his base
