What happens during reincarnation? If you reincarnate a character in the eternal realm, the following happens:

• The status changes from “eternal” to “seasonal” for the current season
• The level is reset to 1 and your equipment is removed
• Name, class, set skins, appearance, and selected mode (Normal or Hardcore) are retained

You can then play the new season with your former favorite character without having to recreate and rebuild it as before.

How that works and what you should do beforehand is explained here. But be careful: This feature is truly usable in the game only starting from Season 15.

Diablo 4: Preparing for Reincarnation – What You Should Do Before

Before you perform a reincarnation with one of your old characters, you should store all equipment and items in your eternal stash, as otherwise they will be deleted (unlike in Diablo 3, where lost items were delivered as mail).

But don’t worry, if you forget this, you will be warned beforehand, and you can only initiate a reincarnation if the character is essentially empty. So you must select whether you want to drop or destroy all items beforehand.

So it’s best to sort out what you want to keep and what can be permanently discarded.

Diablo 4: How to Execute Reincarnation

If you then want to execute the reincarnation, proceed as follows:

• Go to your character overview
• Select the eternal character you want to use for the current season
• Then select the option “Reincarnation”
• Enter your character’s name in the provided field to delete all remaining items and switch the character to seasonal

After that, your character is like new, and you can start with them at level 1 in the new season.
