With Lord of Hatred came a feature to Diablo 4 that suddenly makes the weakest items extremely useful. You should no longer simply ignore or break down blue and yellow items without consideration.
What feature is it about? It is about the Horadrim Cube, which is part of the new expansion “Lord of Hatred”. It allows you to upgrade, modify, and craft items. While not all of the cube’s functions are known in detail yet, one thing is certain: it is massively worthwhile to use even weaker items as a base.
In the past, magical (blue) and rare (yellow) items often went ignored at high levels, but today they can be very powerful. This currently leads to exploding prices in trading.
Horadrim Cube revolutionizes trading in Diablo 4
Why are the items so valuable? Blizzard has fundamentally revamped common, magical, and rare items for Lord of Hatred:
- they drop even at Torment levels,
- can be “empowered”,
- and have significant affixes.
This is meant to serve as raw materials for crafting in the Horadrim Cube. With the cube, you can add affixes to the normally weak items and increase their rarity.
Since it is difficult to obtain perfectly rolled empowered items directly, taking the route through magical items is a good alternative. Experts also refer to the cube as a “powerful tool” for item farming.
This results in blue items currently being traded at enormous prices. A look at the site diablo.trade makes this clear (login required):

Individual players mention in a Reddit thread on the topic that the system is actually nothing new. Similar mechanics already exist in other ARPGs, and even in Diablo 3, many blue items were worth more than rare ones, explains the user baggierochelle. However, the Horadrim Cube creates excitement in Diablo 4 overall, as it significantly facilitates the targeted hunt for desired items.
To avoid losing track of the flood of drops, you should put together a suitable loot filter. This allows you to selectively hide or highlight equipment, regardless of whether in the inventory, treasure chest, or with the vendor. How to optimally set up the loot filter in Diablo 4 is explained in our guide.
