GTA 6 has also prompted other developers to do the same with their releases in order to stay out of the giant’s way. One developer did the same, but for a completely different reason.
Why did the developer postpone their game? The developer of the visual novel game Danganronpa, Kazutaka Kodaka, who is now working on the remake Danganronpa 2×2, explains in an interview with Crunchyroll why he postponed this to 2027.
The decision was – as with many other developers – influenced by Rockstar’s long-awaited GTA 6. Many do not want their game to be released in direct competition with GTA 6.
Kodaka also does not want to be stressed with release pressure during the launch of the new GTA title. He needs the time to immerse himself in Vice City.
A delay was “inevitable”
How does Kodaka express himself? In the interview with Crunchyroll, the developer of Danganronpa states that they “naturally wanted more time for development.” And yes, “a certain AAA title will be released soon, which is why a release delay was inevitable.”
But one thing he emphasizes particularly: “I wouldn’t have had time to develop the game while playing GTA 6.”
When exactly Danganronpa 2×2 will be released in 2027 is still unknown. Perhaps it depends on how long GTA 6 can captivate the developer before he wants to return to his own game.
