Destiny 2 will receive its final update in June, and it is set to be monumental. Many new and old contents will be implemented before Bungie’s loot shooter takes a break. What you can expect, we summarize here in the overview.
When does Moment of Triumph start? The last update of Destiny 2 will be released on June 9 and is called “Moments of Triumph”. With this, the developers want to leave fans with a significant amount of content before the game enters the infamous maintenance mode.
The main changes of the update at a glance:
- The layout of the star map will be adjusted
- Distortions will appear in patrol areas
- The portal will receive a major update
- Gambit Ops will appear as an option for modes on the star map
- Heavy Metal will come into the PvP rotation
- SRL or Sparrow Racing League will return with cool new features and weapons
- Return of the Pantheon
We will now go into detail and explain what you can expect from the individual adjustments. With our directory, you can also quickly jump to the updates that interest you the most:
Adjustments to Destinations: How Patrol Zones Are Changing
The star map is set to shine in its former glory again, this time with two updates. The portal has taken over the focus of activity search, but that will no longer be the case. When you want to land on the Moon, Kepler, or the Tower and open your menu, the colorful star system of Destiny 2 will greet you. This is how it will look:
However, the most important changes are in the individual patrol zones. Loot is to be massively improved. Not only are old favorites like Plusquamperfekt returning, but they will also be earnable at various levels. Depending on the destination, you will have to decide which set of items you want to earn, as they have been thematically assigned to their planets – for example, you will find Seraph weapons in the Cosmodrome.
But it won’t just be better loot; it should also get exciting in terms of activities, and distortions are supposed to play a role in that.
Planets Are Distorted: Here Are the Distortions
To make patrol zones more exciting, Bungie has created a new threat – a phenomenon called “distortions”. Well-known destinations will be afflicted by this anomaly hourly, impacting activities and enemies.

Your enemies will become stronger and more aggressive due to this phenomenon, while you will receive better loot from activities on afflicted planets. There will also be a new, unnamed activity in the distortions that is suitable for blueberries and veterans – Bungie has not yet commented on it. So we have to wait a little longer.
The Portal Breaks Its Boundaries
Bungie has finally taken your feedback to heart. Were you tired of the new menu? Good, because now it’s gone… well, not entirely, but it has been hidden behind an icon on the star map. So if you want to quickly access the respective activities, you can open the portal next to Vanguard Ops and Co. Bungie has also taken the liberty to reintroduce some old classics. These include:
- Fireteam Ops
- Heist Battlegrounds: Mars
- The Disgraced
- The Lightblade
- The Scarlet Keep
- The Corrupted
- The Lake of Shadows
- Pinnacle Ops
- Operation: Seraph’s Shield
- Zero Hour
- Arena Ops
- Override (On a 4-week map rotation)
Updates on Difficulty and Rewards
The difficulties have been adjusted and how they affect the rewards. Now you can select fixed difficulty levels, thus achieving a minimum level for your rewards. Bungie explains this with a table:
| Difficulty | Reward Rank | Reward Level |
| Normal | C | Tier 1 |
| Advanced | B | Tier 2 |
| Expert | A | Tier 3 |
| Master | A+ | Tier 4 |
| Grandmaster | S | Tier 5 |
| Ultimate | S+ | Tier 5 |
This way, you don’t have to activate mods for the activities and beat yourself up through even tougher content just to get the best of the best. But what happens to the selectable modifiers, you ask? These are still available, just optional or up to your taste.
So if you want to earn tier 4 items but don’t want champions? Then play on the “Expert” difficulty and throw in some modifiers to increase the reward level. This will make grinding even more relaxed.
The matchmaking in portal activities will also be adjusted:
- The activities contain fewer modifiers than before.
- They grant rewards and a rank corresponding to the selected difficulty level.
This is supposed to make them even more accessible. The revival tokens will also receive a new coat of paint. In Arena Ops, they will be completely removed. In Fireteam Ops and Pinnacle Ops, you will receive 7 tokens at the Grandmaster level at the beginning – at Ultimate level, it’s 5.
Variety in Loot
Portal Ops will now have an exclusive reward pool for weapons and armor sets. The change applies to the following activities:
- Crucible Ops (General)
- Crucible Ops (Competitive) – Additional exclusive pool
- Trials of Osiris
- Iron Banner
- Gambit
- Sparrow Racing League (SRL)
“Solo Ops” and “Fireteam Ops” each have a unique reward pool for weapons and share a new armor collection with set bonus. “Arena Ops” and “Pinnacle Ops” will also receive a unique weapon pool and share a new armor collection – complemented by an additional pool for “Onslaught” (more details on that further down). In addition, weapons from “Arena Ops” will be available in holofoil variants.
Surge, Trials of the Ancients, The Coil – Major Changes Planned
Bungie was not satisfied with how much time you spent in these activities. They were not fun enough and did not reward enough. The developers want to change that with the following adjustments:
- Surge
- The amount of scraps you receive from various sources has increased by over 40%, allowing you to maximize defense at every location.
- Revive tokens have been completely removed from this mode.
- The difficulty curve has been reintroduced. The first ten waves are now easier than the selected difficulty level. The next ten waves will be more difficult, and the last ten waves will match the selected difficulty level.
- For example, the first ten waves of Grandmaster Surge feel somewhat like the Expert difficulty, the next ten feel more like the Master difficulty, and the last ten waves feel like the usual Grandmaster difficulty.
- Trials of the Ancients
- The number of paths per run has been reduced from four to three.
- The difficulty curve has been reintroduced. The first path is now easier than the selected difficulty level. The next path will be more difficult, and the last path will eventually raise until it matches the selected difficulty level.
- For example, the first path in Grandmaster Trials of the Ancients feels somewhat like Expert, the second more like Master, and the last one as usual like Grandmaster.
- The reward pool of Trials of the Ancients has been supplemented with rewards from the world pool, which can be obtained at the end of each path in addition to the rewards from the Pinnacle Ops.
- The Coil
- The difficulty curve has been reintroduced. The first path is now easier than the selected difficulty level. The next path will then become more difficult, and the last path will eventually match the selected difficulty level.
- For example, the first path in Grandmaster Coil feels somewhat like the Advanced difficulty, the second more like Expert, the third more like Master, and the last path as usual like Grandmaster.
- In addition to the rewards from the Pinnacle Ops, there are now also rewards from the world pool in The Coil, which are available at the end of each path.
- The difficulty curve has been reintroduced. The first path is now easier than the selected difficulty level. The next path will then become more difficult, and the last path will eventually match the selected difficulty level.
Ding, Ding, Ding! Gambit on the Horizon!
Gambit will not receive a major update; however, it will be more prominently featured on the star map. The mode will get its own icon, and its rewards will be massively improved. Old acquaintances like 21 % Delirium can then be unlocked with new perks. Additionally, you will always receive tier 5 gear when you reach the primeval phase. So it’s worth giving it your all. Last but not least, there will also be a larger selection of armors that you can earn.
The Rotations for PvP
For many PvP players, the question now arises as to how Bungie proceeds with special events like Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris, and here too the developers have a plan. These activities have their fixed rotations and will occur at the following times:
- The Iron Banner
- Every month, every four weeks, Lord Saladin will appear for his hardcore PvP event
- Trials of Osiris
- Every weekend, as usual, you can visit the 14th Saint for the trials. However, when the Iron Banner is active, there will be no trials for that week. This way, the events do not unnecessarily overlap.
The trials are also supposed to become more varied regarding maps. Fixed maps are no longer guaranteed. It may also happen that you receive a selection of three maps. There will no longer be fixed weapon drops for the weeks either. These come from a loot pool and are random.
Familiar 6v6 modes will also rotate weekly, while 3v3 modes will alternate daily. Heavy Metal will also appear in the rotation, and there should also be the Behemoth as a new war machine. More details on the respective changes will be provided at a later time.
SRL – How Bungie Brought Back the Classic
Last but not least, Bungie is bringing back SRL, the Sparrow Racing League. In this, 6 Guardians compete against each other in a race – the fastest wins. However, the developers didn’t want it to just be a copy of the old mode. Adjustments have been made, such as a rocket start, where you get a boost at the beginning of the race by heating your vehicle at the right moment. Additionally, there will also be a kind of “Photo Finish” to better differentiate a tie when it gets close.

Vehicles of the SRL
New Weapons of the SRL The familiar 4 maps from Destiny 1 have made their way back, along with an additional new 5th map located in the Dimension of the Nine. In the background, there have also been technical adjustments made to ensure that the races feel smoother than ever.
Last but not least, there is also a lot of rewards that you can earn for free. This includes a large selection of weapons, two vehicles, horns, and shaders from Destiny 1 as well as an armor set.
