More open world for Diablo 4? The developers believe that the game has very good conditions for it and that significant steps can be taken in the expansions.
The identity of Diablo 4 could change in the future. In an interview, the developers discuss the future of the title and note that they currently have good conditions to further develop the game into an open world.
Right now, everything revolves around dungeons when you want to farm the best gear for your build. However, in the future, they want to offer more content outside of these instances.
What does the plan for the open world of Diablo 4 look like?
This is what the developers say: During a roundtable at BlizzCon 2023, the Diablo 4 team discussed future plans and the current state of the game (via wccftech.com).
The first step was the launch of the base game. Diablo is known as a major dungeon crawler, and we added this huge open world. This is quite a significant development for the entire franchise and a wonderful platform for us to experiment with many more things.
You will see some of these things in the seasons. The hope is that we will also take larger steps in the expansions, so it really is about creating a platform to do more. I think Diablo as a franchise is generally well suited for that.
The advantage is that Blizzard has already created the foundation for an open world and can now experiment.
There has not yet been an official announcement for changes of this magnitude. It may still be many years away from experiencing a functioning open world in Diablo 4. Initially, this is already happening in the game through events like world bosses.
The developers add: “It has now been four years since we announced Diablo IV at BlizzCon. At that time, there was a type of game that most people played with Diablo 3. Today there are four Diablo games that people can play: D2R, Immortal, and D3 (the latest season is really cool) and D4. It has been really great to have the support of our team, Blizzard, and now also Microsoft to provide fans with more and more Diablo, as there is still so much more we want to do.”
