In Diablo 4, it is currently possible to duplicate items and gold. This is a thorn in Blizzard’s side, and thus trading has been disabled in Season 2.
Why is trading being disabled? Blizzard disabled player trading in Diablo 4 on October 23, 2023. In a statement on the official forum of the developers, community manager “filthierich” states that the reason is a duplication exploit.
In addition, it is stated that the team behind the Hack’n’Slay is working on a solution to the problem and wants to keep players updated as soon as trading is possible again (via forums.blizzard.com)
This is a duplication exploit that requires a second player. We will not reveal how exactly the exploit works. According to some users on Reddit, the exploit is so simple that you could even accidentally do it (via Reddit).
What happens to accounts that exploited it? Players who exploited the duplication must expect a penalty according to Blizzard.
The forum states regarding this: “Any account that duplicates gold and items will be penalized in accordance with our end-user license agreement (via forums.blizzard.com).”
How long will trading be disabled? The duration of Blizzard’s trading ban is currently unknown. However, past experience gives hope that trading will be enabled again soon.
In August 2023, the trading in Diablo 4 was disabled by the developers – again due to a duplication exploit that allowed players to multiply their gold. In August, Blizzard was able to fix the exploit within a day and allowed trading again (via forums.blizzard.com).
The duplication of gold and items has a long history in Diablo, as players can easily obtain amounts that would otherwise only be possible with a lot of grinding. In Diablo 2, the exploits for duplicating gold were so severe that players eventually established rare items like the “Stone of Jordan” as a new currency.
What is the “Stone of Jordan” and why is it so important for Diablo?
