Black Desert Mobile aims to bring the gameplay of Black Desert Online to mobile or tablet. But will the game become just another freemium Asia mobile game that aims to extract money from players with pay-to-win methods?
Black Desert Online is a buy-to-play sandbox MMORPG that is currently only available for PC and looks stunning. However, not only PC players will be able to enjoy Black Desert Online in the future. In addition to the planned Xbox One and PS4 versions, a mobile version of Black Desert is reportedly in development.
Black Desert Mobile – Same Engine as the Original
As the major feature of Black Desert Online is its fantastic graphics, the developers did not want to cut corners here. Therefore, the graphics engine of Black Desert Mobile is the same as that of Black Desert Online on PC.
However, Black Desert Mobile is not meant to be a port to mobile, but a standalone game with its own gameplay and a story set 50 years before Black Desert Online. The mobile version is set to be a full-fledged MMORPG offering the same features as an MMORPG – complete with quests, crafting, PvP, and raids.
Black Desert Mobile – Developers Claim No Pay2Win Cash Grab
At the Korean developer conference IGC 2017, a representative from the developer Pearl Abyss spoke about the monetization system of Black Desert Mobile. According to the developer, they do not want to create a typical Asian pay-to-win mobile game just to make a lot of money.
While it might make economic sense, it would ultimately harm the company and the reputation of the Black Desert brand. Therefore, players in Black Desert Mobile should not constantly be prompted for real-money transactions for items.
