Minthara is a companion and potential romance in Baldur’s Gate 3, which you must first unlock. You can recruit her in two different ways. One of these methods requires you to kill innocents. We will tell you what you need to do.
Who is Minthara?
- Minthara is a Drow, a dark elf with rather dark intentions.
- You first meet Minthara in the Destroyed Sanctuary, where goblins have settled.
- The companion is best suited for “evil” playthroughs, especially if you want to ally with the parasite in your head, but can also be interesting for more benevolent players if they can get along with her nature.
This is why Minthara is so strong: Minthara is inherently a Paladin and thus one of the strongest classes in the game. Paladins are not only extremely robust but also deal a lot of damage. In addition, they can cast spells. They are the ideal tanks and front-line fighters.
If you are not playing a Paladin yourself or want to respec one of the other companions, Minthara is the only option here. In a group, she can easily replace Lae’zel, Karlach, or even Shadowheart.
As a Drow, Minthara also commands some additional spells like Darkness, but she has improved Darkvision herself, which can be helpful in many situations. She can also assist you later in the game by making a dangerous area easier. For spoiler reasons, we will not reveal which area that is.

You can even romance Minthara and do so quite early in the game. However, if you are a druid yourself, it can get quite wild:
Recruiting Minthara – The Cruel Method
To recruit Minthara on the evil path
, you must fight on the side of the goblins in the Goblin quest line around the Emerald Grove. Once you reach the destroyed village, convince the goblins there that you are a friend – also on the way to the Destroyed Sanctuary.
Ask your way through the goblins until one of them sends you to Minthara. As a Drow, you have more dialogue options for this. It is important that they are friendly to you and do not attack immediately.
Minthara is located in the upper right room of the temple. Speak to her and tell her where the druid grove is located. She will then start the quest “Loot the Emerald Grove.”
Dror Ragzlin must stay alive until the quest, as otherwise the goblins will attack you. This also means: you cannot save Halsin or the Tieflings in the Emerald Grove.
Gain the druids’ trust and wait until the next morning. Minthara will then explain the plan to you. Follow the plan and kill everyone in the grove. Later in the game, when you visit the Towers of the Moonrise, you will encounter Minthara again in the dungeon below Ketheric Thorm’s throne room. There you can free her and then recruit her into your party.
If you want to enter into a relationship with her, do not seek out her fears when you are in her thoughts!
Warning! If you follow Minthara’s plan, it is a thoroughly evil act that will not be approved by some of your companions. You may lose some friends and in any case the option to recruit Halsin.
How to recruit Minthara without slaughtering innocents
With patch 5, Baldur’s Gate 3 has implemented an additional option for recruiting Minthara – without having to kill the poor Tieflings.
To recruit Minthara in a good
way, you can bypass the conflict in the druid grove. Instead of attacking the druids and Tieflings, you can take out the goblin camp.
But instead of killing Minthara, you knock her out. You must take her down with non-lethal attacks
that you can activate under your passives. The rest is the same as the evil
