The anime MMORPG Blue Protocol: Star Resonance has announced its release and is coming out even earlier than anyone expected.
What kind of MMORPG is this? Blue Protocol: Star Resonance is the reincarnation of the anime MMORPG Blue Protocol by Bandai Namco. For the subtitle “Star Resonance”, the new developers from Tencent have completely rebuilt the MMORPG. With a few exceptions, the game now only resembles the previous work visually.
In terms of style, Blue Protocol: Star Resonance is a theme park MMORPG that aims to impress with fast-paced dungeons, powerful world bosses, and a beautiful community system with housing and guilds.
If you want to play your character to the top, you can look forward to a master dungeon system similar to Mythic+ from World of Warcraft, which encourages many hours of dungeon grinding. However, before the grind can start, the game must first be released. Now the developers are revealing when that will be.

From beta to release
When does the MMORPG start? The anime MMORPG was in closed beta in the West until September 8, 2025. Although the game has been available in China for some time, the developers wanted to test the localization of their version first.
The developers seemed satisfied with their work, as they have already set the release of their game for almost exactly one month later, on October 9, 2025. Interested players can already pre-register on the website playbpsr.com and benefit from some launch bonuses. That the game starts so early and without further delays after the beta was something hardly anyone expected.
How does the MMORPG play? MeinMMO author Cedric Holmeier has already tested the new anime MMORPG in beta for 50 hours, and he finds:
Blue Protocol: Star Resonance has strengths and weaknesses. Those looking for a new MMORPG to play for up to 2 hours a day will be very happy here. The world is beautiful, and the characters and outfit designs really immerse you in the anime world.
On the negative side, there was a heavy pay-to-win scheme present in the beta. Whether it was gacha, trading with real money in the auction house, or battle passes and VIP systems, everything was there. There was also a certain degree of auto-combat and auto-navigation, which likely stemmed from crossplay with iOS and Android.
Nevertheless, as a free-to-play player, it was always possible to keep up in the game, and the game never set the bar so high that you would be left behind without spending money. However, those expecting the next World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV, or Guild Wars 2 from Blue Protocol: Star Resonance will not find it. The target audience is players who want to achieve a lot with their limited time and for whom an MMORPG can also come to an end in a day.
