The MMORPG Lost Ark will not have the class “Summoner” at its release in Europe and North America: Players were able to play the Summoner in the beta in Europe and North America and the class was popular, but it will not be playable at launch. The class will be replaced by the “Sorceress.”
What’s up with classes in Lost Ark? It’s a bit complicated:
- In the current Korean version of Lost Ark, there are 6 different base classes and 22 “Advanced Classes” – these are the classes that you will “actually play.” For example, there are 4 different variants of the Warrior.
- This also has to do with the “Genderlock”: While we in Europe have a “Warrior” that can be played as a woman or a man without changing the gameplay, MMORPG developers in South Korea would create two different classes that resemble each other but differ slightly in gameplay.
- At the launch in Europe and North America, Lost Ark will start with 15 of the 22 classes. The 15 classes are not evenly distributed among the 6 main classes: there are about 4 different variants of the Martial Artist, but only 2 Wizards and no “Specialist.” The selection of classes has now been changed.
Who’s out? As Lost Ark announced on December 2, the “Summoner” class will be removed from the release in 2022 (via lostark). The class is expected to come later.
We described the “Summoner” on MeinMMO as one of our recommendations for starting in Lost Ark. The Summoner can summon creatures and perform various powerful attacks through them.
The class deals a lot of damage but has low durability. However, it is not a classic pet class like in other games, because the summons do not fight by their side but disappear after their attack.
Why does their loss hurt? In a survey about the favorite classes in the beta, the “Summoner” was the most popular class on MeinMMO with 10.4% and also among the GameStar community it was leading.
Who replaces them? Amazon brings the “Sorceress” to the game at launch. The Sorceress is a classic mage who relies on area spells.
Amazon brings the “latest class” from Korea
Why is Amazon doing this? Amazon says they changed the starting lineup so that there is “something for every taste.” The Sorceress is the latest class in Lost Ark. She was only introduced in August 2021 in the Korean version of the game, and they are very happy to share her with their players.
How is this being discussed? People on Twitter are just confused. They see no reason to remove a class just because another is being introduced. Especially players who fell in love with the Summoner in the beta cannot understand Amazon’s decision.
According to the people on Twitter, Amazon could have just increased the number to 16. It just feels forced.
It is suspected that the Summoner was temporarily sidelined so that Amazon has more time to address some glitches or issues.
A release date for Lost Ark is unfortunately still unknown.
