Wizards of the Coast, the makers of Dungeons & Dragons, are reportedly planning a collaboration with World of Warcraft. According to the leak, the goal is a complete rulebook. Fans are still uncertain about this.
On the virtual tabletop system Roll20, a post regarding the collaboration between D&D and World of Warcraft has appeared (now deleted, can be found on ENworld.org). There is no official announcement yet, but one is expected at GenCon on July 30.
While collaborations with World of Warcraft usually mainly involve (rather expensive) skins and Wizards of the Coast releases special Magic sets for such occasions, this time it is said to be a real rulebook.
What exactly the two companies are planning is not known. However, Dungeons & Dragons has received crossover rulebooks in the past, such as for Lord of the Rings, or opened its own game worlds in expansion books (Ravnica, Theros, Strixhaven, etc.).
D&D offers numerous settings that differ greatly from the Sword Coast. Accordingly, it is likely that an adaptation of the 5.5e rulebook with Warcraft as the setting will be released, possibly with a few new subclasses. However, we do not know more yet.
The Ravenloft setting was recently the site of the official campaign:
Fans are cautious, do not expect major changes
On Reddit, there is a discussion with over 200 comments on the topic. There, people discuss the possible contents of the Warcraft-D&D. In many comments, one reads skepticism or attempts to dampen the hype:
“I think people need to understand that this is not WotC, how they translate World of Warcraft into the mechanics of D&D. You will be playing 5.5e in the WoW universe. It will use the regular 5.5e rules, perhaps with a few cool rules thrown in, but they will not fundamentally change how D&D classes or mechanics work.”

As a longtime D&D player, my assessment is somewhat more optimistic. Looking at expansions like Theros or Ravenloft, these books do have their own identity that, despite shared basic rules, stands out clearly from the “standard D&D”.
WoW even had its own tabletop RPG in the past, which was based on the 3.5 edition of D&D. It is possible that some inspiration will be drawn from there.
In general, D&D and World of Warcraft have a fairly long history together, not least because Blizzard took a lot of inspiration for its own game from tabletop RPGs. And there are also a few Easter eggs: NPC soldiers hide in WoW to secretly play D&D
