The spin-off to The Witcher, known as Project Sirius, has had development issues from the very beginning. Now, the team is bringing in a veteran from Destiny 2, who was responsible for one of the best DLCs.
Who is joining the team now? As Kwan Perng announced on LinkedIn, he has joined CD Projekt Red as the Lead Writer. He will now work on Project Sirius. He is already looking forward to telling stories in this dark world. He also reports about his job change on X.
Pern is responsible for the story of many Destiny 2 DLCs (see Moby Games). From Shadow Keep to The Edge of Fates, he has contributed to many contents. Among them is “The Final Shape,” which is widely considered one of the best expansions. In our MeinMMO ranking, “The Final Shape” ranks 2nd.
This means The Witcher gets a talented story writer. However, keep in mind that this is not the main installment The Witcher 4, but the spin-off that has already endured some setbacks during development.
Spin-off to The Witcher needs to get back on track
What do we know so far about the spin-off? Project Sirius is said to take place in the Witcher universe according to CD Projekt Red and will differ from previous productions. It is set to offer multiplayer gameplay in addition to a single-player experience. There are talks of a campaign filled with quests and stories that are supposed to be included in the game.
Since the announcement in October 2022, not much more has been heard about the game. This is due to several issues:
- In 2023, it was found that development was not heading in the right direction. Therefore, the project was paused and re-evaluated, as indicated in a report from CD Projekt.
- Days after this announcement, CD Projekt confirmed that about half of the employees of the development studio The Molasses Flood would be laid off. As the game concept had changed significantly, a different team composition would be needed for the new direction. This was confirmed among others by a reporter from Kotaku on X.
- While Project Sirius is not dead, to this day there is no material about the game that has ever been shown.
CD Projekt Red has also secured high-ranking veterans for the main installment, which is currently in development.
