Hunger is a new extraction shooter on Steam, where you fight for survival against monsters with swords and revolvers. There are quests, dungeons, and boss fights.
What kind of game is this? In recent days, various shooter streamers on Twitch showcased gameplay of a game called “Hunger,” which is set to be released in early access on Steam.
Hunger is an extraction shooter that feels like a mix of various games. The game visually resembles Hunt: Showdown, but instead of the Wild West setting with monsters, it takes place in a dark version of Napoleonic Europe… with monsters.
Post-apocalyptic shooter with swords in the age of Napoleon
What is Hunger about? Hunger takes place in Napoleonic Europe, during the time when the former French general, consul, and emperor Napoleon Bonaparte lived.
The continent appears as a pile of rubble, and in addition to the devastation of war, an unknown bacterium causes horror. You must not only contend with hostile humans but also prevail against vile abominations that seek your life.
What sets the gameplay apart: There are various characters with different abilities and play styles that you can choose from at the beginning. However, unlike in Hunt: Showdown, you do not lose your character upon death. Instead, there is the meta-progression known from other extraction shooters.
For example, you complete various quests, gain reputation with traders, and steadily improve your equipment. Additionally, there is said to be a RPG-like skill tree as well as crafting or gathering professions that allow you to create certain items.
You will meet traders and other players in the social hub, where you can move freely—not like in ARC Raiders and other extraction shooters, where everything takes place in menus.
The focus of the combat system is primarily on ancient firearms such as single-shot rifles and revolvers, but also swords and axes. You can always carry one one-handed and one two-handed weapon—such as a revolver combined with a large battle axe or a rifle and a dagger.
Moreover, Hunger aims to completely avoid wipes and should offer plenty of PvP as well as endgame content such as dungeons and boss fights.

What is known about the release? Not much. Hunger will be released in early access. The exact date has not yet been revealed by the developers. There is expected to be a public beta beforehand, but no date for that is known either.
Currently, a closed test is running, which you can see on Twitch with streamers like Dhalucard, TORRO, 2TwistedTV, or Fabian Siegismund.
