Fans of extraction shooters are getting a new title on Steam: A new game changes the perspective and visually reminds of charming indie games.
What kind of game is this? No Such Place is an upcoming game from the developer Chilly Room from China. The studio has already released titles in the genres roguelite, RPG, and real-time strategy.
In contrast to the genre leader Escape from Tarkov, their new game is an extraction shooter that is not played from a first-person perspective. Instead, the developers have chosen an isometric view. You look down at your character and the environment.
The premise of No Such Place is as follows: You are part of the “Unknown Research Consortium,” or U.R.C., whose members investigate various areas full of anomalies. These include abandoned facilities, outposts, and forests.
What will you find there? In addition to opponents, valuable equipment typical for the genre.
A world full of dangers
What is there to do in No Such Place? While you explore the areas, you’ll find equipment like weapons, medicine, or armor, as well as artifacts, secret documents, and biological samples.
No matter what you stuff into your pockets, you must leave the zone at the extraction point before time runs out. Everything you bring back to the safe house is yours.
Along the way, you will encounter dangerous enemies, such as rival factions, mercenaries, or mutated creatures. To confront them, the game allows you to craft a weapon from practically anything – whether the assembled parts will serve as a useful means against the enemies will only show in combat.
During your expeditions, you will grow stronger, with the developers emphasizing that every action should improve various attributes of your character. The safe house, where you are safe between excursions, can also be customized.
You won’t have to do all of this alone: No Such Place offers a co-op mode for up to four players. Whether as a lone wolf or in a group, you will scour a grim world from an isometric perspective, with the pixel art graphics being deliberately kept simple.
It somewhat resembles a more comic-like version of the indie hit Project Zomboid. As for combat, the game uses twin-stick shooter controls. With one stick of the controller, you control the character, and with the other, the crosshair.
Can No Such Place be played already? The full version has not been released yet, but it has been announced for 2026. In the meantime, you can try a demo on Steam.
