Players in Elden Ring can invade the worlds of others and engage in PvP duels. A Reddit user now reports about an unusual invasion that ended with a generous gift.
What are invasions? In Elden Ring, just like in the Dark Souls series, you can invade the worlds of other players. This is called an invasion, and it can quickly add extra stress in the often tense daily life of an Elden Ring player.
Just when you were busy with a PvE opponent, a hostile real player suddenly joins. Honorable invaders, of course, wait until the host has eliminated any threats and can fully devote themselves to the PvP duel. Others, however, show little honor and attack. The host usually meets their demise quite quickly.
A Reddit user recently had an unusual encounter with an invader.
A generous invader
What happened to the player? The user Emergencyailoli tells on Reddit that they were invaded by an unknown player. They thought it would lead to a battle, but to their great surprise, the invader did not want to engage in a duel.
Instead, the invader dropped large amounts of runes that the host could simply pick up. Runes are the currency in Elden Ring, similar to souls in other Souls games. This is how you level up yourself and your gear, and you can buy items from merchants.
Having many runes gives a clear advantage in Elden Ring and allows one to strengthen their character. However, the invader not only dropped several thousand runes but also 99 pieces of the best versions. The strongest runes, those of Queen Marika, yield a whopping 80,000 units when consumed.
Thanks to the 99 items that the host received so generously and without any exchange, they can quickly improve their character by numerous levels. However, they do not understand why they were so fortunate. They write in their post: “Why would someone do such a thing?”
What does the community say? Such a generous act does not go unacknowledged by players. On Reddit, they express their opinions:
- “Sounds like you found the Loot Goblin,” writes Ronin_26 on Reddit, with this goblin not keeping the loot for themselves.
- “He was invaded by Robin Hood,” adds chronicbruce27 with another fitting comparison on Reddit.
- “I wouldn’t use [the runes] to level up [the character], but just upgrade all the weapons you can,” recommends AdDeep4130 on Reddit.
- “The same thing happened to me, and the next day when logging in inappropriate activity was detected, and since then I can only play offline,” warns lawschoolthrowaway22 on Reddit. However, the mentioned message could also be a harmless error.
The feared invasions lose some of their dread through a story like this. Other players fight against their invaders and defeat them to collect a pile of runes. If there are unusually many, some Elden Ring players become suspicious, as in an interesting case that brought the winner of the duel a whole 80 million runes.
