Cyberpunk 2077 offers a lot of content to experience in Night City and Dogtown, along with its DLC “Phantom Liberty”. A player was also looking forward to this, until he eventually realized that he missed a lot of it due to a mistake – and not only he finds that unfortunate, but the entire community as well.
What mistake did the player make? The player simply visited Hanako Arasaka at the Embers. Actually, a decision that every player will eventually make if they want to finish Cyberpunk 2077, as this mission initiates the endgame. However, the player was inattentive during this:
The affected player and Reddit user CabinetLog8683 ended the game this way without diving into Phantom Liberty for even a second. But he only noticed it when he saw the “Thank you for playing” message on his screen: “I feel like I ruined the gaming experience.”
Community does not understand how this “mistake” can happen
How could this even happen? The only way to accidentally and “involuntarily” start the endgame is to have not read the warning from the game that pops up before visiting Hanako. Once you enter the elevator, there is no going back. This makes it clear to everyone.
This means: The player was not attentive enough, probably skipped the text, and the verdict is therefore: their own fault.
How does the community react to this mistake? The community cannot understand how one can overlook the big warning and then be surprised that after starting the endgame the game … ends.
“So many people nowadays just press the enter key or A key as soon as a text box appears, and then they go to Reddit when what was predicted in the text actually occurs,” writes IM_THE_MOON_AMA under the Reddit post. This approach also makes HuckleberryNo8794 sad: “A friend of mine skipped the FIRST cutscene of the game, then complained that he didn’t understand what was happening, and also skipped the next one immediately. I just checked out, lol.”
Other players like optimarv simply call this mistake a sort of initiation ritual into the player community of Cyberpunk 2077, because “that’s why we never talk to Hanako.”
