MeinMMO editor Jasmin experienced an exclusive preview of the Steam game Limit Zero Breakers. The developers revealed how the title aims to stand out from other Gacha games.
As a fan of Gacha games, you now have to prioritize which titles you play. Because right now, they are popping up like sand on the beach, chasing the success of past titles like Genshin Impact.
So with each new title comes the question of why you should play the newly released game. NTE, for example, has the unique selling point of mixing anime aesthetics with GTA elements.
A new star in the Gacha sky is Limit Zero Breakers. At first glance, it looks like many other Gacha games with anime visuals. The developers told me in an exclusive preview why players should choose this particular Steam title. And I’ll give it away right now: especially anime fans should keep their eyes and ears open!
Limit Zero Breakers goes all-in on the anime lane
Right in the first minutes of the trailer, a big bombshell dropped. The development team is working with the legendary animation studio MAPPA. The studio is animating the cutscenes that will be seen in the game.
If the mention of the name didn’t already make you burst into cheers, let me share some animes for which the studio is responsible:
- Jujutsu Kaisen
- Attack on Titan: The Final Season
- Chainsaw Man
- Hell’s Paradise
The animation studio has animated several Shounen animes, which are animated series from Japan specifically targeted at a male audience. And thus, it is perfectly suited for the game Limit Zero Breakers.
The point of difference of this game from other Gacha games is the inspiration from classic Shounen animes. As a player, you should feel like you are watching your favorite Shonen anime.
When I asked which animes were the source of inspiration, no specific series were mentioned. They simply spoke of a feeling that the game is supposed to convey. However, the developers also had their own favorite animes, including Hunter x Hunter and Chainsaw Man.
And in the scenes shown, I must say that it really felt like watching a Shonen anime. How that translates into the full game, I can’t assess yet based on the first images, but the cutscenes alone look so good that it could be its own anime.
Anime sequences and boss monsters aim to maneuver out of the Gacha monotony
Apart from the anime sequences, I must admit that many points sounded as if they could appear in any other Gacha game.
- The individual characters that the players control have their own elements that influence each other. Wind and lightning elements, for instance, create a debuff when combined.
- The characters must be drawn via a Gacha system, for which real money or in-game currency can be used. Within the story, we basically recruit them for our adventurer guild.
- At release, there should be crossplay features between PC and mobile.
As further distinguishing features, the different characters with their own motivations and the boss fights were mentioned. But as a player of several Gacha games, I know that these two points are not unique features, as other Gacha games also have numerous characters and boss fights.
What also confused me was the co-op fun with friends
that the developers mentioned. These boss raids will be the only content that can be played in multiplayer mode. Three players will each control a character, with individual player characters needing to be rotated.
So it’s not that you are simultaneously battling a boss monster with two other gamers, but you have to wait until the player in front of you gives up control of their character so that you can take over with your own character.
The developers revealed that this could require a lot of coordination between players. I remain skeptical because personally, I wouldn’t enjoy watching others tackle a boss fight when I could also contribute myself.
However, it may also be that this content was just presented this way in the demonstration. In the final game, it could be possible that each player controls their own party. After all, in some images, several characters are seen attacking a boss monster simultaneously. At least, I would wish for that.
Are you playing Gacha games at all? If so, which titles are your favorites? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
Also, Arknights: Enfield is a game that wants to compete with Genshin Impact. There’s also a unique selling point, so players who don’t have a problem with Gacha titles can try the game: With Arknights: Endfield launching today, the biggest competitor to Genshin Impact in years arrives, but it has a special feature
