MeinMMO author Johanna recommends a game on Steam that not many people have on their radar, but costs less than 20 euros.
I actually have nothing to do with Lord of the Rings. Although I am a huge fantasy fan, I have not dared to approach the movies or the books until now. The universe seems so vast, and I need time and focus to be able to immerse myself in it.
However, one thing from this universe has captivated me: the game Tales of the Shire.
In this cozy adventure, you play as a hobbit who arrives in the peaceful Shire – more specifically in Waterau – to live together with other hobbits. The goal: to have Waterau recognized as a proper village. To do this, you must work together with the residents to shape it into a cozy place to live.
- Currently, you can get Tales of the Shire on Steam for just 19.79 euros, instead of paying 32.99 euros. That’s a discount of 40%.
You can watch the trailer for the game here:
In Tales of the Shire, everything revolves around cooking, because love and affection go through the stomach. By cooking for your hobbit neighbors and inviting them to eat in various spots, you forge friendships and enhance village life.
Different characters give you quests that unlock new cooking utensils and activities like gardening or fishing. You can also decorate your own hobbit hole as cozy as you like.
I am thrilled by Tales of the Shire because it has an Animal Crossing vibe that lets me comfortably traverse through part of the hobbit universe. The hobbits give the game the ultimate cozy vibe with their nature. Tales of the Shire brings a certain charm to the hobbit or Lord of the Rings
universe and makes the world come alive.
However, it must be said: Tales of the Shire does not reinvent the wheel and does not offer a very long main quest. However, it allows for a quick dive into the life of hobbits and provides many opportunities to unlock everything in a grinding manner.
And who knows, if I play Tales of the Shire again, it might be enough motivation for me to read the Hobbit book and then dive into the Lord of the Rings
books as well. At least I can understand the cooking in this universe, and maybe that’s the entry point I need.
What do you think of Tales of the Shire? Will you try it now that it is on sale? Let us know in the comments! If you want a cozy vibe but also a bit of building simulation and action against monsters, I can recommend my go-to for 7 years, because it currently costs only 4 euros on Steam: This hidden gem on Steam has kept me engaged for 7 years, and now it only costs 4 euros
