WoW: Forever is part of the normal subscription, but you can secure special content through paid packages. Included: a novelty of the Classic Plus version that should be part of the base game for many fans.
What bothers the fans? In the announcement of WoW: Forever, it was somewhat overlooked that the new race of the Skyborne (in English: Skyborn) and the associated questline in the new starting area on the island of Zephras will not be part of the normal experience available to all players.
Anyone who wants to create a character with the new race must have one of the three paid packages of WoW: Forever:
- the Skyborne Heroic Pack for just under 30 euros
- the Skyborne Epic Pack for just under 60 euros
- the Warcraft Forever Collection for just under 80 euros
By purchasing the packages, you will also secure various cosmetic in-game items, as is already known from other Classic packages, but also – depending on the version – WoW subscription time, a beta access, or the possibility of name reservation. This is not WoW Classic at all
How does the community react? The announcement of WoW: Forever is generally very well received. Many Classic fans are looking forward to the Classic Plus version and the launch in November. However, the decision to monetize the new race along with the starting area does not sit well with many players.
- LevelStudent writes on Reddit: “How much more can they add to the Classic mode before it’s no longer classic? I feel like ridiculously overpriced microtransactions are one of the many things that bother Classic players about the full version.”
- Korysovec criticizes this as well on Reddit: “This leaves a bitter aftertaste for me. The launch comes with microtransactions from day one. I guess the years of hype around Classic Plus led me to hope a bit too much that Blizzard would return to its roots. But that company no longer exists.”
- Anilahation is more bothered on Reddit by the choice of the race: “Anything but ogres and high elves, Blizzard. This is already the fourth or fifth race they have added that nobody asked for.”

How does MeinMMO editor Karsten Scholz rate the packs? I was already bothered by the paid packs when it came to WoW Classic through the Dark Portal. That has nothing to do with the idea of Vanilla-WoW. Yes, it is optional. But it annoys me when other players ride through classic Azeroth with their paid mounts or use their cosmetic antics that are not at all Classic.
Additionally, WoW: Forever will not be free. Sure, the subscription offers an incredible amount of WoW for 13 euros a month now. But there will be enough people who only play this one version, and for a very, very long time. Quite a bit of money is likely to flow to California.
It’s almost good that the Skyborne haven’t appealed to me so far. I will definitely play a bald Undead again, who, as a rogue, strikes at his enemies’ backs with daggers and swords.
