Team Rocket occupies the village of Lavender and discovers that the skull worn by Marowak can be sold for high sums on the black market. Therefore, the thugs set out to hunt small defenseless Cubone to forcibly take their skulls.
A Marowak mother bravely confronts the criminals to allow her baby to escape. The little Cubone is also able to escape, but Marowak fights until its last breath and is ultimately so brutally injured by the thugs with electric batons that no Pokémon Center can help anymore.
In the games, Marowak appears as a wandering spirit in the Lavender Tower. Only when players can acquire the Silph Scope device from Team Rocket do they see the true identity of the mysterious figure. The mother realizes that Cubone is still alive and gives it one last hug before it bids farewell to the afterlife forever.
Snubbull’s heroism costs it its life

The elderly lady Harriet is dismissive towards Pokémon. She blames herself for the death of her own partner Pokémon. When she was a young woman, she worked at the power plant of Fula City, but there a devastating fire broke out.
The building was in flames and everyone was evacuated. But Harriet’s partner Pokémon Snubbull ran back into the fiery hell to retrieve the central safety key of the power plant. The Pokémon managed to bring the key back to Harriet in its mouth. However, an explosion consumed the Pokémon in flames.
