What is Classroom of the Elite about? Koudo Ikusei High School is, at first glance, a dream. The students enjoy massive freedom, high prestige, and their futures seem guaranteed – anyone who graduates here has almost free choice of profession and is welcomed at every university.
But there’s a catch: The school is extremely competitive and classes are sorted by prestige, from A to D. The top students in class A enjoy more freedoms, while the weakest students in class D fear they might have to leave the school without a diploma.
The student Kiyotaka Ayanokouji is assigned to class D – the lowest-rated class, whose primary role is to serve as an example and threat to the other classes. But Ayanokouji doesn’t let that stop him: He has a clear plan to lead his class to the top and must withstand manipulation from both inside and outside.

Classroom of the Elite scores with a variety of characters, intrigues, and psychological influences that partly reach the complexity of the world of Game of Thrones – only in the anime guise of a school. Ayanokouji’s cool and calculating nature carries the series and allows plenty of room for all the other characters to have their moment in the spotlight. Observing how the different classes manipulate each other to attain the coveted position as “Class A” is a strong appeal that one only understands once immersed in the series.
