What is Kakegurui about? Hyakkaou Private Academy is the place where the richest of the rich send their children. By day, it’s a prestigious school that educates the future elite of the country – but at night it transforms into a gambling den. Gambling with money, loyalty, and control as stakes decides who has the power at this school. While most proceed analytically and schematically, it’s the seemingly naive and beautiful Yumeko Jabami who plays gambling mainly for pure pleasure and thrill – often skirting the edge of madness.
Why are psychological games important in Kakegurui? Even though the games played often seem like pure games of luck at first glance, where chance decides victory and defeat, there is often a twist – either some form of cheating or hidden logic that must be uncovered in order to emerge as a clear winner. Observing how the different characters analyze their opponents and try to steer the game in their favor is a large part of the appeal of the series. The fact that the mostly quite pretty ladies have a little too much fun with gambling naturally enhances that.
