What is Death Note about? One day, the exemplary Japanese student Yagami Light finds a strange notebook right at his feet. A book that forever changes his life: Because whoever’s name he writes in the book dies shortly thereafter. Due to his strong yet twisted sense of justice, Light begins to envision a world without crime – because the ultimate punishment is immediately delivered in the form of his judgment. But while he eliminates criminals, investigators take notice and have little understanding for the vigilante justice with which Light wants to create his new world order.
Why are psychological games important in Death Note? The protagonist Yagami Light is constantly in danger of being discovered by the police or the special investigators – especially the mysterious L. As “Kira,” Light tries to get L’s name while L in turn tries to definitively catch Yagami. Not only do these two exceptionally clever young men battle each other, but they also draw everyone around them into this cat and mouse game, where many characters are nothing more than chess pieces to be skillfully maneuvered.
