Who is that? Muten Roshi was the first teacher of Son-Goku. The Turtle Hermit guided him and Krillin in their early days. Through him, they learned the basics of martial arts. The Kamehameha, which has become an iconic attack of Son-Goku, also comes from him.
In his free time, the Turtle Hermit is anything but serious. He hoards dirty magazines like others hoard great wealth and prefers watching aerobic shows on television where women wear particularly revealing outfits. This often causes him fountain-like nosebleeds, leading us to genuinely worry whether he will need a blood donation someday.
Why does he hit on women so much? The Turtle Hermit is one of the first ero-senins, or the perverted old hermits that appeared in animes. There is no deep psychological reason behind his perversion other than the comedy factor.
A possible explanation might be that he trained for so many years in almost complete isolation on a tiny island. Who wouldn’t go crazy?
