While herb gathering in World of Warcraft, you can find a creepy skull. And it’s been there for over 20 years if you look closely.
World of Warcraft is full of endless secrets. Many of them have been encountered over the years, such as the story of the invisible rabbits that keep WoW running. But there are also other discoveries that have remained hidden for decades.
Did you know that there’s a human skull in an herb from the vanilla version of WoW? Well, we didn’t know either. But see for yourself:
What kind of herb is that? The herb is Silver Leaf, one of the standard herbs from World of Warcraft that you can find in many starting areas. At first glance, the skull is barely visible, but if you zoom in closely and take a look at the “interior” of the herb, it becomes obvious.
A custom geo-set for the head
Why is there a skull in the herb? That’s a good question. There are several theories about it. It could either be a rather curious Easter egg or simply a mistake. The male human model is often used as a basis to design other things in the game. It’s possible that in an early version, a male human was placed next to the herb to get a better impression of size and proportions. Perhaps a part of the model was simply forgotten – and has since been lurking in the Silver Leaf.
Interestingly, the Silver Leaf model consists of two different geo-sets – namely the skull and the herb itself. So essentially, they are two objects that are glued together.
By the way, it was the YouTuber 720 Zone who drew attention to this hidden detail with his video.
Is this only in WoW Classic? No. The texture of the Silver Leaf plant has not changed since its creation in vanilla times. So if you currently discover Silver Leaf in World of Warcraft – for example, in the forest of Elwynn or Dun Morogh – it still has the built-in human skull.
