We show you how to complete the world quest “Failed Experiment” in World of Warcraft and defeat Gorgemouth.
In World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, there are a number of world quests that can be quite challenging. Especially the battle pet quests can cause frustration. Inexperienced pet battlers can spend hours on a single quest, as the answer is not always obvious.
One of these quests is the battle against Gorgemouth and the associated world quest “Failed Experiment”.
Where can I find the quest? The world quest is in Maldraxxus and is located at coordinates 54 / 28, almost right next to the flight point. Like all world quests, it is not permanently active and is only accessible on certain days. The pet can always be battled, but rewards are only given when the quest is active.
Pet Battle: Defeating Gorgemouth in Maldraxxus
In general, there are several options for defeating Gorgemouth, which depend on your available battle pets. The larger your selection of pets, the easier the quest is to complete.
Option 1 – Low-Level Pets: Most pet battle quests in WoW: Shadowlands scale with the level of your battle pets. So if you assemble a crew of battle pets that are all level 1, Gorgemouth will also be at level 1. In this case, he only has one ability and cannot heal himself. This makes the fight extremely easy, so you can easily win with a team of low-level pets.
The “Lightless Wanderer” pet is suitable for this. The pet drops from Lady Ashwind in the Eternal Palace but is often sold in the auction house. It is a water pet, so it takes less damage from undead. At level 1, it already has the ability “Dash”, which deals damage to beasts and is particularly effective against Gorgemouth.
A Lightless Wanderer can defeat Gorgemouth at level 1 on its own. It requires no further assistance.
Option 2 – Familiar Duo: If you prefer to defeat Gorgemouth in a classic manner with a team of level 25 pets, you can use this team, which works well together:
- Unborn Val’kyr (Shadow Shock, Curse of Doom, Unholy Ascendance)
- Iron Starlette (Wind-Up, Powerball, Charge)
- Whatever
The fight proceeds as follows:
- Shadow Shock
- Shadow Shock
- Curse of Doom
- Unholy Ascendance
- Wind-Up
- Charge
- Wind-Up
- Powerball (repeat until you win)
Usually, the fight should be won with the Iron Starlette. Otherwise, any random third pet must deal the final blow. Normally this is not necessary.
Option 3 – Burning Toxin: The last option relies on the ability “Burning Toxin”. This is a flying ability that reduces 6% of the opponent’s max HP each round. This allows you to quickly chip away at Gorgemouth’s many hit points. Many insect pets have this ability, but the following pets are particularly well suited:
- Spunky Glowing Firefly
- Purple Glowing Firefly
Just make sure that “Burning Toxin” is permanently active on the opponent. In the meantime, you can use “Scratch”, which deals increased damage against Gorgemouth.
If you follow one of these strategies, Gorgemouth should pose no problem for you and will quickly perish.
Note that the solutions presented are by no means the only ones. Many other combinations of battle pets can lead to victory. The ones mentioned above are simply considered “foolproof” and are virtually risk-free.
