After our recommendations for the best professions for all classes from WoW: Forever, we tell you what makes the top professions stand out and why other trades do not appear in the overview.
Below we answer some of the questions you might have regarding our overview of the best professions for all classes of WoW: Forever – you can find these on page 1 of the article, jump directly to the sections that interest you through our table of contents.
Why is Engineering so good for DPS and Aggro?
Engineering provides you with usable explosive items like the Goblin Pioneer Charge. With these, you can not only maximize your damage dealt or (as a tank) the threat generated, but you can also quickly deal with dangerous situations with many opponents. Just be careful of the self-damage of some items.
Note that many of these explosive consumables in WoW: Forever likely no longer require Engineering skill, allowing you to purchase them through the auction house if necessary. However, this may significantly eat into your gold reserves.
Also important: Druids cannot use most explosive items in their Cat or Form forms. However, these can be effectively used during brief shapeshifts through macros (be cautious with this when tanking!). Blizzard has lifted this restriction for potions in Forever, by the way. Moreover, there should be some consumables from Engineers that also work in animal forms.
Why should Hunters learn Engineering?
Hunters have access to the mentioned explosives as Engineers, as well as ranged weapons, ammunition, and scopes. This is likely more worthwhile in the long run than crafting your own gear through Leatherworking.
Why Tailoring and Enchanting / Blacksmithing and Mining / Leatherworking and Skinning?
Tailoring provides all cloth classes (Warlocks, Mages, Priests) with special armor sets, similar to how Blacksmithing offers high-tier sets for Warriors and Paladins, and Leatherworking provides comparable armor equivalents for Hunters, Rogues, Shamans, and Druids.
Blacksmiths and Leatherworkers receive their most important resources through Mining and Skinning. However, there is no matching gathering profession for Tailoring. You obtain cloth by defeating humanoid opponents in dungeons and the open world.
When leveling Tailoring, you will create many items that you don’t need. Instead of selling them, you can simply use them to level Enchanting. This way, you gain direct access to enchantments for weapons and armor that can be quite expensive for all non-enchanters.
Why no Alchemy / Alchemistry for PvE?
Alchemy is a strong profession in WoW: Forever that provides all classes, specializations, and roles with powerful potions, elixirs, and drinks. However, these are not bound to your character and do not require Alchemy knowledge for use.
You can therefore also purchase them at the auction house or craft them with twinks (only crafting potions can be tricky with twinks). But for the main character, it’s true: You can’t go wrong with Alchemy, regardless of your class. Herbalism is then the best choice for the second profession.
Why is Engineering the best profession for PvP?
As an Engineer, you can create grenades that temporarily stun the opponent. This is worth its weight in gold in any PvP situation, especially if you need to purchase the grenades due to your profession.
In addition, there are all the “toys” like the Goblin Rocket Helmet, Goblin Rocket Boots, or the Gnomish Cloaking Device, which can make the difference between victory and defeat in PvP – if they function. Anyone who wants to play competitively in the open world and on battlefields needs Engineering.

Why is Alchemy a strong alternative for PvP?
If you can supply yourself as a PvP fan with resources for Engineering through twinks, definitely consider Alchemy. Elixirs and potions are also effective in PvP in the open world and on battlefields. Additionally, you need tons of swiftness potions or potions of freedom in PvP. Crafting them yourself is cheaper than buying.
What about professions to earn gold?
We will address this in a separate gold guide in more detail. But here are some insights from WoW Classic and Vanilla WoW:
- Cooking, Fishing, Mining, Herbalism, and Skinning are great professions to earn gold regularly without too much crafting effort or reliance on endgame recipes. What you primarily need to do here is farm.
- The most profitable crafting professions were usually Enchanting (if one has access to the particularly powerful enchantments) and Alchemy in the Classic context. New potions, elixirs, flasks, and enchantments are always in demand.
Tip: Engineering could be significantly more exciting for gold makers in Forever than in Classic, as many consumables no longer have the Engineering prerequisites removed.
