Warhammer 40,000 is already an expensive hobby. Fortunately, there are plenty of savings during the current Amazon Prime Day deals. MeinMMO presents you with the most useful ones.
What kind of offers are these? Our tabletop experts have selected paints, brushes, and accessories on Amazon that you need for model building. With what we’ve shown, you can easily start building your own Combat Patrol or army in Warhammer.
The goal is to provide you with the most important “essentials” to save money, as Warhammer minis themselves already cost quite a bit. You can find more saving tips here:
- This is how you can start with official Warhammer minis without having to sell a kidney
- 5 tips for second-hand minis and other sources
The products are suitable not only for beginners but for any model building enthusiast, as many of them are needed on a regular basis or as replacements.
All offers have either already been used by us or have been recommended to us by known and friendly model builders. Please note that not all of the offers are exclusively discounted for Prime Day or may not offer any discounts at the moment.
In this case, it pays to watch and see when there are better prices for the products. You can of course also use our tips to search for cheaper alternatives yourself.
The “Basics” – paints, brushes, and tools that every model builder needs
In the current “Prime Day” sale, there are numerous offers for basic items that you need for model building, such as side cutters, deburring tools, paints, and brushes.
Especially with paints, you can quickly end up spending several hundred euros for a set. The set we recommend from Army Painter includes all the necessary base colors, some washes, and effect paints for details, as well as brushes and a small storage option. A popular alternative would be paints from Vallejo.
Primers are extremely important for ensuring that paint adheres properly to the miniatures and doesn’t look strange in the end. Black primers are generally the best choice. If you’re planning a light color scheme, you can also use the white one. You can see how the results end up looking here:
- I worked for two months to paint my Tyranid from Warhammer 40,000
- I hadn’t held a brush for 16 years, but thanks to a simple technique, my 1st mini in Warhammer looks really good
Since the brushes in these sets are not always the best, we’ve also added a small selection of brushes from Himmlfel – specifically because of the various sizes of drybrush brushes. If you want to spend a little more, brushes from Da Vinci are the best. Secret tip for eyes from MeinMMO reader Horteo: fineliners.
Brush soap is, by the way, a kind of “nice to have,” but for most of us has become so indispensable that we list it here as a basic item. With this, you wash out the colors from a brush after use and greatly increase its lifespan – which also leads to better stroke control when painting.
When it comes to tools, opinions divide. Personally, I prefer the official tools from Games Workshop or formerly Citadel. However, the tools presented here have an almost identical shape, and that’s what matters: a thin tip on the side cutter and a hard edge on the deburring tool.
You will also need glue, but there are currently no offers available for this. The official variants from Revell or even better Warhammer itself are recommended.
Our recommendations for more luxury when painting
If you want to dive deeper into the hobby and take it a step further, there are some useful gadgets and tools for painting:
- A wet palette helps achieve the right paint consistency.
- You can better sort and store your paints with a shelf so you don’t have to keep searching.
- Transport cases are not only practical for transporting figures to the next game but also for storing the minis when you can’t or don’t want to display them in a cabinet.
The products presented here are not a “must” for model building and Warhammer, but they will help you significantly, even if you are still at the beginning. Many tools and accessories only need to be purchased once if you take good care of them.
