Warcraft III is still being developed. A new patch shakes up the balance and raises hopes: Will there be a big Warcraft announcement soon?
The real-time strategy hit Warcraft III is now nearly 16 years old and remains one of Blizzard’s biggest successes. Even now, there is still a loyal community playing the game – and they are getting new content.
Blizzard has reactivated the test servers for Warcraft III and is currently testing the latest patch 1.29. After many months, this will significantly disrupt the balance of the game, as there are numerous balance changes, especially regarding hero movement speed.
But visually, Warcraft III is also being polished and finally receives proper widescreen support for the 16:9 format. Until now, there was only a “stretched” view, where the entire game was simply stretched horizontally. Those who did not want that had to live with black bars on the edges of the screen.
The “Secret Tournament” – is more to come?
But there is more to announce: As speculated in the past few days, Blizzard is hosting a tournament and has invited old legends from Warcraft 3 to celebrate the naming patch, the “Warcraft 3 Invitational: Patch 1.29 Tournament”. The tournament will take place on February 27 and 28.
From Germany, Christopher Heil, better known in the community as Tak3r, who became famous for his notorious tower-rush strategies, is participating.
Many fans suspect that this is just the beginning of something bigger. The tournament is said to be just a pretext for an announcement in the Warcraft realm. Speculation is rampant, ranging from “Warcraft IV” to “Warcraft Mobile“.
Whether there will be “more” than just a patch and the tournament will be revealed in just a few days.
