A new cross-promotion between WoW Classic and World of Warcraft Retail is live. A stylish dragon is up for grabs – and a rather simple task.
With Wrath of the Lich King Classic, the influx to the Classic realms has significantly increased, leading to major issues and queues. Now, the problem could further intensify, as Blizzard is also giving the “Retail heroes” (Shadowlands) an incentive to check out Classic. A new, exclusive mount awaits if players spend some hours in Classic.
What kind of mount is it? The mount is a proto-drake clearly associated with the element of frost. The Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm not only looks terrifying but is also a small teaser for the upcoming expansion Dragonflight – because proto-dragons will play an important role there again.
The mount is only available in the modern version of World of Warcraft and cannot explicitly be used in Wrath of the Lich King Classic.
How do you get the mount? To get the mount, you need to create a Death Knight in WotLK Classic and complete at least the starting area – that is, until the first quest in your capital city (Orgrimmar or Stormwind), where you prove your loyalty to the Horde or Alliance.
Once you’ve done that, you unlock the dragon for modern WoW.
Are there restrictions for the Death Knight? Yes, but none relevant if you want the mount. Previously, it was necessary to already have a high-level character, but that is not the case in WotLK Classic. You can create your first Death Knight on any realm without any prerequisites – you can therefore start earning the mount right away.
How long does it take? It likely depends on your play style. Normally, the starting area for Death Knights should not take more than 1 to 2 hours. If you already know all the quests, it could go significantly faster.
It’s best to choose a realm that is not fully loaded. Otherwise, you might end up waiting longer in the queue rather than actually getting to play.
What do you think of this way to unlock a mount? A cool, nice addition? Or just annoying that you have to play the “old” WoW for a mount?
