The MOBA from Valve is one of the most played games on Steam. Like many other online games, Dota 2 receives regular updates to adjust heroes, items, and mechanics. Now the first sentence of the new patch has shocked the players.
What is the first sentence of the update? The new update 7.41 was released on March 24, 2026. Without any greeting, Valve gets straight to the point and writes in the first sentence: “Removed facets from the game” (Source: dota2.com).
What were facets? Facets were introduced in 2024 and were one of the largest mechanics in Dota 2. Almost every hero had 2 to 3 facets that slightly changed the playstyle. These were adjusted or re-balanced with most updates, but never completely removed.
Now Valve has shocked the players of Dota 2 and removed all facets from the game with this small sentence.
Players thought facets would stay forever
What are the players’ reactions to the change? The update was naturally also shared in the Dota 2 subreddit. Many players are shocked by the first sentence and write that they did not expect this change.
The Reddit user chiikawa00 additionally writes that he got stuck on the first line and could not read on at first.
Also, an employee of the wiki Liquidpedia has spoken out. He writes on Reddit that the implementation of the facets was painful. Now he is looking for more helpers to assist him in updating the website to remove all facets again. Additionally, all the other changes need to be included, as those are quite numerous.
The update turns Dota upside down again
What are the main changes? Since the patch notes are huge and would exceed the scope of an article, we will briefly summarize the most important general changes:
- The facets have been removed.
- The scaling of talents has been changed and now scales with the hero level.
- Minions on the lane now meet closer to the offlaner’s tower. This allows this role to play a bit more safely.
- There are 9 new items in the shop and 8 new items from jungle monsters. Additionally, jungle items can now be farmed from minute 0 instead of minute 5.
- The terrain of the map has been adjusted.
In addition to these general changes, many items have been adjusted and some revised. Nearly every hero has received changes that are not only related to the missing facets.
