ARK 2 has a new release date, but it’s much later than expected. A new survival game on Steam could be just right for you.
What game would that be? Echoes of Extinction is a new survival game from Burning Rock Studios. The game is still in development and is currently raising funds to finance the project. A corresponding Kickstarter campaign is currently ongoing.
In contrast to ARK 2, which now won’t be released until 2028, you can play Echoes of Extinction right now – although for now only in the form of a tech demo that is freely available on Steam.
Here you can see a trailer for the new demo of Echoes of Extinction:
Two survival games in one
What kind of game is this? Echoes of Extinction strongly resembles the previous ARK games at first glance. You find yourself naked on a wild island where you gather resources, craft primitive tools, build a base, and fight for survival. This island is also home to prehistoric dinosaurs.
The first major difference becomes apparent with the dinosaurs. While in ARK they are all controlled by AI, in Echoes of Extinction you can also play as them.
So you get two survival games in one:
- As a human, you experience a classic survival experience with gathering resources, crafting, and building bases – similar to ARK.
- From the other perspective, the game plays more like The Isle: You start with a vulnerable juvenile and grow into a defensive dinosaur over time.
Some of the screenshots on the Steam page of the game show not only battles but also cooperation between humans and dinosaurs. So, like in ARK, you will be able to tame dinosaurs.
What does the current tech demo include? In the current demo, you can already try out the different gameplay of the “Tribals” (i.e., humans) and the dinosaurs.
For the dinosaurs, the tech demo offers two rather unknown species: the herbivorous Ouranosaurus and the carnivorous Eocarcharia. In the wild, you will also encounter small, AI-controlled Dryosaurs that you can hunt.
Have you tried Echoes of Extinction yet? Feel free to let us know in the comments if you see potential in it.
