The Twitch streamer lightedits banned a viewer from his chat because the viewer allegedly harassed him. The viewer apparently used a feature of Twitch to get his money back.
Who is the Twitch streamer? It is the Twitch streamer Lightedits. On Twitch, he has over 16,000 followers and has primarily streamed the game VALORANT in recent years (Source: SullyGnome). Besides that, lightedits also engages with gaming content.
Recently, however, the streamer has not been in the spotlight for his gaming streams but because of a post on X, in which he revealed that he had a problem with one of his viewers.
Allegedly, the viewer had lightedits’ phone number and partially disclosed it. Consequently, lightedits banned the viewer from his chat and warned others on social media about this viewer.
Streamer has to refund 1,200 dollars
What did the viewer do next? The viewer allegedly used a feature of Twitch that cost lightedits over 1,200 dollars: the refund function.
On Twitch, viewers can support their streamer in various ways. Either through subscriptions (colloquially called “subs”), direct donations, or donating bits, the currency of Twitch. According to the Twitch policies, viewers can withdraw some of these payments.
What happens next can be seen in lightedits’ case. The money that is withdrawn is taken back by Twitch from the streamer. For lightedits, this amounted to a total of 1,265.37 dollars. Lightedits seemed upset about this action.
How does the community help? Some people noticed the post on X and decided to help lightedits. They took out a new sub, namely their Prime sub. A free monthly subscription that Amazon Prime offers to every Prime user. For the viewer, there are no additional costs when subscribing to a Twitch streamer, but the streamer still receives the money from the sub.
This way, some viewers accessed lightedits’ Twitch channel to offset his “lost” money. In another post on X, the streamer announced that after just 14 hours, the money had come back in.
Lightedits does not seem very happy about Twitch’s policies that allow such refunds. Other Twitch streamers have also occasionally expressed dissatisfaction with Twitch’s rules, as have VTubers.
