The British Twitch streamer SVB is considered an excellent player in Overwatch and has earned a good reputation in the community of Blizzard’s shooter. However, an internet troll wanted to destroy this reputation. He claimed that the Twitch streamer had demanded nude pictures from underage girls. The streamer says that people immediately reacted with outrage online, even though the accusations were completely unfounded.
Where did the information come from? The Overwatch streamer SVB explains in a YouTube video the difficult situation he was in for several hours in recent days. The video is titled: “An internet prank almost ruined my life. (via youtube)”
Troll impersonates a 17-year-old girl, accuses Twitch streamer
These were the accusations: The streamer says that a Twitter account named “Niaplaysow” confronted him on Thursday, August 11, with serious allegations. The Twitter account pretended to be a black 17-year-old girl. The account accused SVB of:
- “grooming” underage girls, seeking contact with them to later entice them into sexual acts
- requesting nude pictures from underage girls
- Claiming that he demanded these pictures from her
To give more weight to these accusations, the troll forged screenshots of Discord messages.
These were the reactions: The Twitch streamer says that many people tried to “cancel” him, even though he loathes the term.
Many people immediately believed the accusations. They called me a pedophile and labeled me with things I don’t even want to repeat.

This is how the situation unraveled: Only a few hours after this shitstorm, an account posted admitting that he was behind the accusations:
Well played everyone. It was just a fake. I’m Nia. I just wanted to prove how easy it is to cancel someone and how embarrassing the community is. Thank you for all the nice comments.
The Internet Troll
According to SVB, people told him that the troll was a 14-year-old boy. The streamer says:
This person executed their prank and then deleted all social media accounts to never be seen again, thus escaping all consequences for their actions.

Streamer does not want to undermine the credibility of real women
This is what SVB says: He finds the situation extremely uncomfortable. He wants to make it clear that his case should not be used as an example to dismiss such accusations as false:
I want to make one thing clear: Please do not use what happened to me as an excuse to undermine or question the credibility of real victims of grooming or sexual assault. I do not want this to be my legacy.

He says: Real women would almost never lie about such things. Because for them, it is difficult to come forward with such allegations.
But in his case, it was not a real woman, but a fake account.
What makes SVB sad is that no one really took the effort to question whether the accusations came from a fake account or not.
