The MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV (PC, PS4, PS5, soon Xbox Series X) will receive 2 new DPS classes with the expansion Dawntrail in summer 2024: a melee DPS and a spell class. We look at the clues from the trailer and Naoki Yoshida’s T-shirt, and we considered the hottest fan speculations on which new job could come to the MMORPG.
This is the situation with the classes of FF 14:
- Final Fantasy XIV now has 20 different jobs. With the last expansion Endwalker, the “Reaper” and the “Sage” were added.
- With the Dawntrail expansion in summer 2024, a new melee fighter and a new wizard are expected to join the roster.
- The mastermind behind the game hinted that almost all known classes from the “Final Fantasy” series are now in the MMORPG, so a completely new class could come.
T-Shirt clue shows the Ninja Turtles this time
Are there any clues? Usually, the game’s leader, Yoshi-P, gives a hint about which new class is coming to Final Fantasy XIV by giving a cheeky tip through a piece of clothing. He wore a Batman T-shirt in 2014 to hint at the “Dark Knight.”
In 2023, he wore a “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” shirt. This is a hard-to-decipher hint, as classes like Ninja, Samurai, and Monk are already in the game.
The site IGN speculates:
- It could be a hint at a turtle race
- It could be a class that uses a staff like Donatello
- It could even be a class that uses multiple weapons of the Turtles
- Perhaps a new scout class that uses nunchucks (Michelangelo) or sais (Raphael) could come
In addition to Yoshida’s T-shirt, several images showing the Warrior of Light in a new outfit were spotted in the trailer for the new expansion. Many see this as a hint at the new melee class.

The creator of Final Fantasy wished for this: The creator of Final Fantasy wanted Naoki Yoshida’s “Beastmaster” as a new class (via gamesradar).
Some users on reddit like this, who wish for a “hunter-like” class that can then collect animals. This would be like its own mini-game.
However, a Beastmaster or Hunter does not fit the “melee class.”
Reddit speculates the “Corsair” as the new melee class
What new job are fans speculating about? The favorite on reddit appears to be the “Corsair”: A class that relies on chance in Final Fantasy and could use a sword/pistol combo in Final Fantasy XIV. Alternatively, it could be a pirate.
Most speculations focus on the melee DPS. There are significantly fewer speculations about the caster. Ideas like Necromancer or Pictomancer are circulating here.
