A new update for GTA 5 has been released, bringing an anti-cheat system. However, not everyone is happy with the update: BattleEye is ruining the modding community on PC for GTA 5 Online. Or are they just cheaters?
This is the goal of the update: The new update 1.69 from September 17 has installed an anti-cheat system, BattlEye Anti-Cheat.
We reported on MeinMMO yesterday that BattlEye is causing problems for users on Steam and the Steam Deck.
Even worse is the situation for a community of modders on PC, as they offer a cheat tool that has become very popular.
One of the most popular mod menus for GTA 5 may be nearing its end
This is the modders’ problem: As reported by gamesradar, a collateral damage of the update is the users of “Kiddion’s Modest Menu,” which is used in GTA Online.
With the menu, it is possible to obtain weapons or increase ammunition – basically, what cheats do in GTA 5.
However, the creators of the tool say: “At the moment, the future is very uncertain and it likely means the end for now.”
Some of the mods and mod menus may “never work again,” and they will keep players updated. The tool is described as one of the most popular free mod menus for GTA 5 Online.
Some miss the tool, others are happy it’s being shut down
How is this being discussed? On Twitter, one user says: He is happy that such a security risk is being closed down. He doesn’t care if hackers give themselves unlimited money or spawn cars in GTA 5. But hackers who take control of PCs are a real problem.
Others are also pleased that the community is suffering. They call it one of the “rare victories for Rockstar.” Time and again, comments appear where people express their joy that “kids who rely on cheats” are having their fun spoiled. They should finally learn to play “normally.”
Users also say that the software was extremely useful for them. They find it unfortunate that it is disappearing.
Meanwhile, one Twitter user dryly notes: That’s why he prefers pirated versions. With those, you can use all mods and don’t need an internet connection.
What happens next? The update has only been live for a day. The community expects that a tool may come out that will disable the protective measure.
What do you think? Are users of such mod tools their own community and worth protecting, or are they ultimately just cheaters to be fought against, and do you find joy in seeing them get punished?
