It’s time for our MeinMMO format “MMORPG News in 5 minutes”. We summarize the most important news around the best genre in the world. You can expect the launch of WoW: Midnight, the end of Sauercrowd, a sign of life from the LoL MMORPG, and more.
Highlights of the week:
- The latest expansion of World of Warcraft is live, finally for everyone. In Midnight, you try to save Quel’Thalas from Xal’atath.
- MeinMMO demon Cortyn has dived into World of Warcraft Midnight and completed all quests. The conclusion is positive – even with some minor errors.
- You can also find the Patch Notes for Midnight on worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com.
- After less than 24 hours, people in Dungeons of World of Warcraft are already complaining that things are not progressing fast enough. Everything as usual.
- On March 3, 2026, Patch 7.45 for Final Fantasy XIV was released. Included: the unstable vault “The Merchant’s Love’s Labor”, a flexible combat content, and a new chapter featuring the master detective Hildibrand! You can find the Patch Notes on finalfantasyxiv.com.
- Elder Scrolls Online is in a generous mood: PS Plus users are currently getting the chapter Gold Road for free, on March 9, the long previously paid DLCs “Orsinium”, “Imperial City”, “Thieves Guild”, and “Dark Brotherhood” will be included in the main game, and with the associated Update 49, many other improvements are coming to the servers – information on everything can be found on elderscrollsonline.com.
What else has happened? Thanks to several job searches, there is a sign of life from the LoL MMORPG. One of the job postings (via riotgrove.com) suggests that the game might be inspired by the look of Arcane. The community is discussing this hopefully on Reddit. Tato23 writes: “This is very difficult, but hopefully they will succeed.”
No WoW expansion without drama and trouble
This is what happened with the big MMORPGs:
- A brief outcry in the World of Warcraft community led to quick changes in the cash shop. Because the prices were so steep that a shitstorm was inevitable.
- In WoW Midnight, there’s a shady dealer in one dungeon selling you an absurdly expensive item. But with a trick, you can get it almost for free.
- The demigods (Loa) of the trolls in WoW are pretty creepy. But everyone else fears the Loa of children. For good reason.
- What actually constitutes a treasure in World of Warcraft: Midnight? Too much, some find. Because you can hardly use the mini-map anymore.
- MeinMMO demon Cortyn is happy about an item that has been in his inventory for over 10 years. Because even in WoW Midnight it was still extremely valuable.
- The most bitter experience for any WoW fan. The entire inventory is gone. The support mocked about it with their statement.
- New month, new delicacies in the trading post of World of Warcraft. A new ensemble from March 2026 is currently particularly well-received in the community.
- Black Desert is celebrating its 10th anniversary for the second time (this time for the release in the West), with events, statistics, updates, and more. Check out playblackdesert.com.
- On March 13, 2026, Producer Letter LIVE Part 91 will be released, which is set to focus on Patch 7.5. You can find the announcement on the official Lodestone.
- On March 11, the new update of Lost Ark is set to be released, featuring the 3rd season of Paradise, the conclusion of the Kazeros story, balance adjustments, and more. Additionally, due to the gradually declining player numbers, further server mergers are planned for May – you can find the information on playlostark.com. A preview of the update is available on YouTube.
This is what happened with Sauercrowd recently:
- With a final raid on Onyxia’s Lair the Twitch guild Sauercrowd said goodbye to WoW Classic Hardcore last weekend. HandOfBlood had his hands full once again.
- Part of the Sauercrowd guild apparently wasn’t ready to say goodbye to WoW Classic Hardcore after the event ended. 20 Twitch streamers set off for the raid instance Zul’Gurub, but not all returned safely.
- After Sauercrowd ended, a new Twitch project for WoW is already in the starting blocks. The streamer Naguura is planning a guild for WoW Midnight.
This is what happened with the small MMORPGs:
- On March 4, 2026, Update 47 for Lord of the Rings Online was released. Included: the raid Nagakhêdis Folly, the 17th reward track for legendary items, various class changes, and the ability to start private encounters from residential quarters. You can find the German patch notes on lotro.com.
- Additionally, the developers of HdRO have announced adjustments to the monster player reward track with Patch 47.1. You can find the details in the developer’s blog post.
- RuneScape is modernizing combat and has detailed its plans and the extensive patch notes on runescape.com.
- The nearly 24-year-old MMORPG Final Fantasy XI is experiencing such a high influx of players that the servers are overloaded.
- Gloria Victis was shut down after 8 months, now the MMORPG is returning and it will be free. However, not everyone is enthusiastic. The new publisher Gamigo is regarded among gamers as a collector and is controversial.
- The free-to-play MMORPG Eterspire has received an update with fresh content, features, and improvements. The highlight: 4 new grinding areas for the Sunscar Canyon. You can find the patch notes on Steam.
- On March 6, Patch 1.0.0.15 for The Quinfall was released, along with a series of fixes. You can find the patch notes on Steam.
- The MMORPG-oldie Runes of Magic is celebrating its 17th anniversary; you can find information about the celebrations on gameforge.com.
This is what happened with MMORPGs in development:
- Steven Sharif has spoken extensively for the first time since the end of Intrepid Studios and Ashes of Creation about the allegations, the current lawsuits, and the status quo in court.
- You can still secure the MMORPG BitCraft Online for €7.68 in Early Access on Steam until March 8. The game with the Zelda-style currently has 72 percent positive reviews.
- On March 5, the Early Access version of Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen received the update 0.18.327. There was a comprehensive update for the Summoner class, the premiere of a dungeon in the Nightfall Crypt, and general adjustments. The patch notes? On pantheonmmo.com.
Thus, we have summarized the most important things that have recently happened in the world of MMORPGs.
