The Butcher is considered the deadliest enemy in Diablo 4. For some, he has become a laughingstock, but other players still fear him and prefer to flee.
Who is the Butcher? The Butcher is a boss who can surprise you randomly in any dungeon. You will notice this at the latest by the stomping footsteps as he comes rushing toward you. He greets you with the words “Ah, fresh meat!”
Some players can only laugh tiredly about the Butcher. Once you reach higher levels, the Butcher no longer scares you. However, other players still fear the deadly opponent. This includes new players who are surprised by him, as well as players of a specific mode in Diablo 4.
Feared enemy in Hardcore mode
Which players are afraid of the Butcher? In a post on Reddit, several players write that they flee as soon as they encounter the Butcher. They play Diablo 4 in Hardcore mode – a death would be permanent.
User Handsomesans117 experienced this twice, as he writes in his thread. He posts screenshots showing that he lost two necromancers to the Butcher. The player characters died at levels 13 and 42. Particularly frustrating: He had already spent nearly 15 hours of gameplay with the character at level 42.
In the comments, users discuss the deadly enemy. rubenalamina writes that he leveled his second Hardcore character and immediately went into a dungeon to unlock aspects. His druid was level 7, and when he encountered the Butcher, he ran back to the entrance and left the dungeon.
For xanderg4, the encounter did not end well: “My first Hardcore character encountered the Butcher in the first dungeon; I was level 5 and just got destroyed. I could honestly only laugh.”
What do players advise? ThanosWasRightHanded advises to simply run away from him if you can’t defeat him, as the Butcher literally despawns after a certain distance. “Remember that for your next run,” he writes in the comment.
In a comment, inertSpark shares his tip for escaping the Butcher quickly – but one should exercise some caution:
It’s really okay to do dungeons once you have scrolls of escape. You just have to press them via hotkey or place them in an easily accessible slot on the action wheel and then immediately use a scroll when you don’t feel strong enough to kill him.
However, I almost died once when he threw his grappling hook just as I was about to use a scroll.
In the comment, PringlesDuckFace writes that the Butcher is a real terror until he suddenly is not. It feels somehow bad when you find him and just eliminate him – as if the players are the real Butchers, he writes. At high levels and with strong builds, the Butcher poses no problem for many anymore.
Which builds will dominate in Season 6 will be evident starting October 8. An expert has already shown an absurd build in Diablo 4 with one of the new skills.
