Elden Ring offers you 10 classes to choose from at the beginning of the game. While this is not particularly decisive in the long run, it can significantly influence the gaming experience, especially in the beginning. MyMMO tells you which player type should choose which class.
The choice of classes in Elden Ring works a bit differently than you might know from other RPGs. Since you can level up an infinite number of times and distribute new skills freely, there are essentially no limits to your builds in the long run. You can also reset the attributes if needed.
Therefore, the classes in Elden Ring mainly play a role in the first hours of gameplay. Especially if you are a beginner, these first hours can be crucial.
The starting weapons have the greatest influence on your success in the game, both short- and long-term. In our tier list you can see how good each weapon is.
Therefore, we recommend the 10 classes here according to experience level, so you can make just the right choice for yourself. With our directory, you can also jump to each section:
This is how the attributes work in Elden Ring:
Vigor: Vitality affects your health points and impacts fire resistance and poison immunity.
Mind: The mind affects FP (mana) and focus-related resistance. Important for magic and spell builds.
Endurance: Increases your character’s stamina and also boosts physical defense. Especially important for melee characters, as stamina enables dodging and blocking.
Strength: Required to wield heavy weapons. It also increases the attack power of strength-scaling weapons.
Dexterity: Required to wield advanced weapons. It also increases the attack power of weapons that scale with dexterity, reduces casting time of spells, mitigates fall damage, and makes it harder to fall from the horse.
Intelligence: Increases the spell power of intelligence-scaling spells and improves magic resistance. It also increases how often you can use spells.
Faith: Required to perform summonings. It also strengthens summons that scale with faith.
Arcane: Affects death resistance and certain spells and summonings.
Elden Ring – The best classes for beginners
By beginners, we primarily mean players who may be trying a FromSoftware game for the first time. Players who want the easiest possible start are also included. For the beginner classes, we have paid close attention to flexibility and long-term usefulness of the starting equipment.
Tips for these classes: You can’t go wrong with the beginner classes. The standard equipment of these classes is traditionally among the strongest weapons and spells, even in endgame. Additionally, the classes have such balanced stats that you can easily try multiple builds.
The following classes are recommended for Soulsborne beginners:
Samurai – Balanced stats, fantastic starter weapon
Main attributes:
- Level: 9
- Vigor: 12
- Mind: 11
- Endurance: 13
- Strength: 12
- Dexterity: 15
- Intelligence: 9
- Faith: 8
- Arcane: 8
What should you note about this class? The Samurai is an excellent choice for almost any player in Elden Ring. This class starts with an Uchigatana, which is traditionally one of the strongest and most versatile weapons in any Soulsborne game. Especially at the start, this weapon is very powerful.
Moreover, a Samurai starts with a bow and a classic Samurai armor. This makes the class a top all-rounder, primarily focusing on physical attacks.
Prophet – Good offensively and defensively due to fire spells and healing magic
Main attributes:
- Level: 7
- Vigor: 10
- Mind: 14
- Endurance: 8
- Strength: 12
- Dexterity: 8
- Intelligence: 7
- Faith: 16
- Arcane: 11
What should you note about this class? Those who have played Dark Souls should know about miracles and pyromancy spells. In Elden Ring, these spells are referred to as “callings”.
The Prophet starts with a spear and focuses on these callings. In addition to powerful fire spells, callings also include supportive healing callings, as well as powerful dragon callings.
This makes the class very flexible despite its lower vitality, making it a good choice for newcomers.
Confessor – Very versatile starting equipment
Main attributes:
- Level: 10
- Vigor: 10
- Mind: 13
- Endurance: 10
- Strength: 12
- Dexterity: 12
- Intelligence: 9
- Faith: 14
- Arcane: 9
What should you note about this class? Similar to the Prophet, the Confessor has immediate access to callings. However, with his sword and shield, he is better suited for new players who want to focus heavily on melee combat. These attributes also offer very balanced stats, allowing them to be good in many situations.
Additionally, Confessors start with a spell that dampens footstep sounds and reduces fall damage. This should make navigating dangerous areas significantly easier if you can sneak around silently.
Vagabond – Versatile in the long term
Main attributes:
- Level: 9
- Vigor: 15
- Mind: 10
- Endurance: 11
- Strength: 14
- Dexterity: 13
- Intelligence: 9
- Faith: 9
- Arcane: 7
What should you note about this class? The Vagabond is primarily a melee fighter. With his longsword, halberd, and shield, this class starts with a variety of long-term useful equipment.
This is essentially an all-round class with medium armor. Thanks to its attributes, you can easily aim for almost any build with the Vagabond.
On the next page, we will introduce you to the 5 classes for advanced players. You will find a colorful mix of different setups that should appeal to many player types.
