The second season of the Netflix series about One Piece will not be released until March 2026. Until then, the actors are spending their time in various ways – one by shaking up a tournament for the official card game of the anime.
Who is it about? The Japanese-American actor Mackenyu is one of the stars of the Netflix adaptation of One Piece. However, long before he took on the role of the green-haired pirate Zorro, he was a big fan of the anime, and the associated card game.
His colleague Jacob Romero, who plays the role of Lysop, referred to him in a Q&A in 2024 as being downright obsessed with the card game (via X). In an interview with Crunchyroll, Mackenyu stated that One Piece is among his top 3 favorite anime.
Now the actor shows that he is just as dangerous with a deck of cards as he is with his 3 swords.

What has he achieved now? Mackenyu participated in a tournament for the One Piece collectible card game from December 27 to 28, 2025, with over 360 participants. He achieved an impressive 8th place.
He later shared on X the deck with which he participated, focused around the character Imu.
Attentive fans might be much more impressed by another detail. Mackenyu apparently had a playmat with a drawing of his character Zorro, personally signed by Eiichiro Oda. With such a good luck charm, the actor naturally couldn’t help but steer directly into the top 10. In fact, it is said that Mackenyu is even a regular guest of the mangaka and plays cards with him.
A user wrote on X: “Can you imagine making it to the top 8 of a huge One Piece tournament, and your opponent is literally just fucking Zorro.”
