Those who have read our play report from the beta know that we recommended the developers to shift to 2026 as early as June 2025. There were simply too many issues that needed to be addressed, which would require significant time and further tests.
That the developers also see it this way was shown by the two very extensive developer updates on the to-dos for the coming months. The head himself even admitted in the meantime that it is unclear whether the next beta will even take place this year. In August 2025, the shift was then confirmed to Q4 2026. Good thing!
Chrono Odyssey has a lot of potential that should not be prematurely buried with an early release. A major plus point: Although Chrono Odyssey is developed by a South Korean studio, the game is significantly different from many other representatives from this region:
- The focus is clearly on PvE, while PvP is meant to be merely an optional aspect.
- When crafting or upgrading equipment pieces and weapons, there are no random components that could feel punishing.
- The diverse character creation comes without gender locks. You can freely choose your gender no matter which class you wish to play.
- The game eschews daily quests and pure mob grinding. Players’ time should be valued.
- The world’s setting is unusually dark, mixing fantasy with sci-fi and cosmic horror.
As in Elden Ring, exciting locations guide you through the world. While exploring, you will find activities such as world quests, dynamic events, various dungeon challenges, world bosses, and more. The crafting system is reminiscent of New World.
To ensure that all of this is enjoyable, the MMORPG needs a lot of fine-tuning and optimization. Fingers crossed that the game doesn’t slip into 2027!
